I have a pulled muscle that makes sitting in what is usually a comfortable position agony. And also lying on my back is impossible. Naturally, I have a temp Christmas data entry job that is about 7 hours long and 6 hours of that is typing for sixty minutes at a time. Gonna get me some painkillers tomorrow! And I mean some ones that work, from a doctor.

So, I went to the docs on the 3rd for this, and overnight the rigid red lump that I had assumed was some kind of lower back muscle was shiny and white and an agonising chunk of pain. So, I hobble over to the docs and get it checked, and it's an abscess! Wonderful! I spent the rest of that day and most of today in hospital after having it cut open and drained, leaving me with one strike at my temp job (any absences, illness, hospital visits, actual operation or not, is a strike, two strikes and fired) and a cavity packed full of stuff to be repacked every day to heal correctly, AND I'm going to work in about 90 minutes. I've had better weeks, let me just say.
Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

Fell, strained/sprained the ligaments in my left ankle.

No break though.

I thought that would be a good thing, but the doctor said a break would be easier.

Go figure.

It seems bizarre that medical treatment would earn you strikes at your temp job. That sucks hard sir. Get better.

Was sick last night, but took some meds and went to bed. Woke up at 1am and felt fine, but then couldn't really sleep again so now feel bleary and be-fogged.
OK, I think I got it, but just in case, can you say the whole thing over again? I wasn't really listening.

You're very obviously not British. I have a permanent Civil Service job (by all accounts one of the most understanding of employers (not for much longer if the noises the current government is making is anything to go by), and an involuntary or otherwise hospital stay could conceivably count unfavourably towards my sickness record if I had a real stickler as a manager (and they're not unknown). So yeah. Temp employers can get away with murder in the Worker's Rights regard.
If an opinion contrary to your own makes you angry, that is a sign that you are subconsciously aware of having no good reason for thinking as you do. If some one maintains that two and two are five, or that Iceland is on the equator, you feel pity rather than anger, unless you know so little of arithmetic or geography that his opinion shakes your own contrary conviction. … So whenever you find yourself getting angry about a difference of opinion, be on your guard; you will probably find, on examination, that your belief is going beyond what the evidence warrants. Bertrand Russell

Yeah, I have heard the same thing several times.

A few months ago I slipped on a stairway and almost fell down. I grabbed for the railing and only my right little finger got hold of it, after almost 3 months it's still slightly swollen and painful.

For the past week or two, every time I try to go to sleep my brain suddenly kicks itself into idea overdrive mode to the point where I have to get up and go write all of my ideas down for the book up slowly but surely working on. I'm not even sure this is a bad thing, because it means that regardless of what I do during the day I end up getting at least some work done every night, but it's starting to get out of hand. I'd like to be able to get a full 7 or 8 hours sleep one night rather than getting 4 or 5 and then trying to squeeze in another hour or two after I take the kid to school.

Freaking tornados in Auckland, three people dead, phone lines cut off, 150 homes with no power, streets closed, people can't get hold of loved ones, and some asshole keeps calling us about people parking too long outside his dairy.

People never cease to amaze me.

We should go sort that guy out, love.

Messing with my groove (much less seriously): we're stocking some 50 Shades stuff at work. That shit is still everywhere :)

Charge double for each one purchased, then take the extra money you charged and buy the same thing from the store then light it on fire.

Problem solved.

But I don't want them to sell at all! Because we'll just get more in. It's a vicious cycle!

Shitshitshit! A girl and I have been flirting for months now - so much so that everyone and their dog thinks we're a couple. But we're not. Which has been been a bit troublesome for me because a) I really want to kiss her; b) I really want to sex her; c) she keeps inviting me to meet her family; and d) I'm having huge issues with doing a), b) and especially c) without knowing what I am to her. So yesterday, finally, after she again invited me to dinner with her mom, I confronted her with this - fully expecting to be shot down immediately. But she said she'd think on it (as if the thought hadn't occurred to her before then).

Now I don't know what's going to happen. What she says she wants to be my girl? I've never been in a relationship before. Like, a proper one. I've had sex with girls I've been (and continues to be) friends with. But I've never called anyone my girlfriend. I'm freaking the fuck out now. Do I actually have to meet her family? Do I likewise have to introduce her to mine? I've never taken a girl with me back to my parents. They'll probably through a fit, thanking the gods I'm not gay and pepper us with questions on when that can expect a grandchild.

Dear fuck, I hope she turns me down.
