We just found out that the father of a friend of ours committed suicide last night.

Gods. Right before Christmas too. Just horrible for the family.

Apparently he was quite depressed, but hid it well.

Still, messes with my groove.

That's very sad.

My uncle died.

My dad died when I was young, so this uncle was the closest thing I had to a dad for most of childhood and adolescence.

RIP.
OK, I think I got it, but just in case, can you say the whole thing over again? I wasn't really listening.

That totally sucks.

My condolences.

Sorry for being a bit of a dick, but imho, getting drunk is a choice, not an inevitability, right? Unless everyone else also gets absolutely hammered shitfaced and you feel peer pressure to go along, there is no-one forcing you to say 'no thanks, I'll have a glass of water/soda/coke/orange juice instead'?

I'll never understand the anglo-saxon drinking culture, myself.

I'll never understand your FACE!

No but seriously, the whole drinking with office people either at office functions or outside is a foolish move. I went to my group x-mas party last week, and I was careful to only have 2 beers (open bar) in the 3 hours we were out, while I watched a couple people get absolutely smashed and our manager and my supervisor looked on with what I could only call disgust.

Honestly... if you are out with people from work have some self control. If you can't, then you have a bigger life problem that you need to address.

This. Both, that is.

Tis true but its a different kinda thing here. I wasnt the only one smashed and as for the manager thing looking on in disgust it was my manager buying me all the drinks. Dont get me wrong your more than welcome to judge over the internet but youll have to forgive me if I dont agree with 'If you can't, then you have a bigger life problem that you need to address.'. Having never met me you have no idea what Im like im hardly an alcoholic and as Tapper has said binge drinking is the norm over here rather than the exception. Having said that im not calling 'its my culture' on it, maybe I shouldnt have gotten absolutely steamboated. But meh the hangover messed with my groove = its going in the thread.

I have to agree with Hidden One now dont listen to me. Got absolutely slaughtered last night at my works party and theres a whole list of reasons I got up this morning, naked, alone and ashamed. Had to go into work today with the most unspeakable hangover and face eveyone from last night....

Am I the only one curious about some of the reasons for waking up "alone, naked and ashamed"!! Come on Tiam, spill for the disapproving hordes ;)

I would but I dont want the self help brigade throwing an internet intervention my way :D

A little reason for my groove to be messed with, not epic but slight nonetheless, I start work at 8:30, I am waiting outside Waterstones at 7:55 this morning waiting to get my dirty little mits on "Proven Guilty", the next Dresden book, and lo and behold they don't open until 8:30. It's a 20 Minute walk from Waterstones to work, so now I have to wait.

I've decided to swap lunch and go at lunch, but that means an all round walk of 40 minutes giving me no time to read the book or eat lunch.

Read and walk - 20 minutes is better than no minutes!

My phone keeps doing this thing whereno matter how high I resetthe brightness it dims itself to a difficult if not impossible to read level. But doesn't move the slider down. So at some point I will have it set to maximum but it will still be illegible

I wish I could. I basically have to sit here and look busy.

Spoke to a woman on the phone today about getting a new puppy for my parents, since the family pet had to be put down a few months ago. perfect scneario, woman can't keep the dog and wants to rehome it, and I'd love to get a good dog for the parents but can't afford to buy one (looking for a few specific breeds, so the pound isn't really an option). So win win it seemed.

The woman said she'd send on some pics of the pup so i could show them to my parents, but it's been hours and still no sign of an email. I sent a follow up text with my email address several hours ago as well in case my email hadn't gone through but still no joy. Now i'm stuck in that I don't want to pester the person since i want them to look favourably on me, and yet if she for some reason got a bad vibe from me on the phone, then I'd hope she would at least give me the polite brush off.

I hate the feeling of limbo :/

T'would be awesome to have a dog again. Fingers crossed.
