Why do I watch the first 5 minutes of Up?

WHY?????
Trouble arrives when the opponents to such a system institute its extreme opposite, where individualism becomes godlike and sacrosanct, and no greater service to any other ideal (including community) is possible. In such a system rapacious greed thrives behind the guise of freedom, and the worst aspects of human nature come to the fore....

Because like that funny picture states, it's better than watching or reading the entire Twishite series.

Getting out and socializing with new people is how you make new friends. I say do that shit up right! Blazer-Brigade Activate!

I have an official policy that when I can't decide if I should go out, then I don't. Unless I know I'm just being lazy or am in one of those periods where I'm actively trying to make new friends (moved to a new place or new job, that kind of thing). The indecision usually stems from not wanting to go but feeling like you should. Fuck that shit! Stay at home :p

While I usually favour Mezla 'stay in to be sure' idea im off out tonight for a works party where ill be one of the new guys there, barely know anyone, will cost me money I dont have,I have work the next day, I will undoubtedly get drunk and do something stupid etc yet im still going.

Why not? Expect drunk/hungover comments tomorrow about how I vomited all over my boss or got with one of the girls in the shop while we both stood on chairs so everyone couldnt help but see when I wasnt at all interested in her (happened last time). Im not sure I want to go and am regretting saying yes but I am forcing myself to go.

AIJ should do the same and if he gets bored pull out his blazer to dazzle everyone (blazer not a euphemism)

I'm sorry, but you are a winner and loser of the game all at once. AIJ - take no advice from this man, he will see you naked in the street with only your legendary blazer to protect you from the trannys & police.
HiddenOne. You son of a bitch. You slimy, skulking, low-posting scumbag. You knew it would come to this. Roundabout, maybe. Tortuous, certainly. But here we are, you and me again. I started the train on you so many many hours ago, and now I'm going to finish it. Die HO. Die. This is for last time, and this is for this game too. This is for all the people who died to your backstabbing, treacherous, "I sure don't know what's going on around here" filthy lying, deceitful ways. You son of a bitch. Whatever happens, this is justice. For me, this is justice. Vote HiddenOne Finally, I am at peace.

Sorry for being a bit of a dick, but imho, getting drunk is a choice, not an inevitability, right? Unless everyone else also gets absolutely hammered shitfaced and you feel peer pressure to go along, there is no-one forcing you to say 'no thanks, I'll have a glass of water/soda/coke/orange juice instead'?

I'll never understand the anglo-saxon drinking culture, myself.

I'll never understand your FACE!

No but seriously, the whole drinking with office people either at office functions or outside is a foolish move. I went to my group x-mas party last week, and I was careful to only have 2 beers (open bar) in the 3 hours we were out, while I watched a couple people get absolutely smashed and our manager and my supervisor looked on with what I could only call disgust.

Honestly... if you are out with people from work have some self control. If you can't, then you have a bigger life problem that you need to address.

My parents did not take too kindly to Mr awesome's romantic gesture (which, I must admit, involved sort of crashing my siblings 18th birthday family gathering. No one does things like that, right? But he did it for me, not knowing how it would go, and it was awesome!), and thought it was rude, impolite and weird...so not a great first impression. They even went so far as to say he wasn't really welcome here again....fuck!

FUCK!

Things finally start going my way, then something like this happens ;)

Explain to them that Mr Awesome (hereafter referred to as 'boyfriend if/when facebook status changes') didn't know it was an 18th b-day for your stupid (probably leave the stupid out) sibling, and that he drove down to spend time with you.

Then ask them how they can hate romance.

haha, I will!

And it wasn't a real party, it was more like : Okay, it's your birthday, I guess we'll have some dinner together and give you some presents. My brother took off right after dinner to hang with his friends, and my sister went to bed pretty early on account of being sick. It just bugs me that they probably won't look past his little "stunt" and see that he is an awesome guy. They'll just think of him as "the stranger who invited himself into our home and ate our pizza" ;)

I would suggest electroshock to correct this behavior (in your parents), but they are family, so DOUBLE-DOSE OF ELECTROSHOCK.

Nah just explain that you were joking and kind of said something jokingly about how it would be nice if he could show up, and then he did and it suprised you too but you think its really sweet and how could they not? (Talk to your mother, a dad is going to hate any guy who dates his daughter).

We just found out that the father of a friend of ours committed suicide last night.

Gods. Right before Christmas too. Just horrible for the family.

Apparently he was quite depressed, but hid it well.

Still, messes with my groove.
