I used to do this. You have to squash that noise before it squashes you. I walked around for many years thinking I knew EXACTLY the person I wanted and had those expectations for the girls I met. It was online dating that taught me the lesson (repeatedly). I threw up my profile and basically spelled out what I was looking for in no uncertain terms.

I met probably 5 girls who met those criteria ....on paper...and then I met them and realized very quickly, that wasn't what I wanted...exactly...it was close, and if said girl could just change this or that she'd be perfect.

So I changed my profile to suit those modifications.

I met a few more girls who fit those criteria again...on paper...and when in person with them I realized that maybe some of the aspects I was looking for WEREN'T what I was looking for at all.

So I changed my profile again to suit further modifications.

I met a few more....you see where this is going. This went on for years. I spent at LEAST 5 years in the online dating area on and off. I met a few perfectly decent women (and a LOT of crazies...) but there was always something I didn't realize about them that would be a dealbreaker.

For example. I said I wanted someone with a good job who enjoyed their work (because I dated a girl who hated her job and it brought me down too), then I met a girl who was gorgeous, enjoyed her job, liked nerdy books ect. and ALL she talked about was her job. She even went so far as to say that she would go where her job took her and whomever she was involved with would have to accept that. Dealbreaker.

I said I wanted a nerdy gothy girl, who enjoyed movies and all the various activities I enjoyed. I met one, and she was perfectly lovely..for five minutes....then she proceeded to be batshit crazy for the next 2 hours, at which point I noticed cut marks on her arms, and she'd go on and on about her desire to have sex in a cemetery ect. Dealbreaker.

I said I wanted a sweet girl, who was into electronic music, and enjoyed relaxing at home more than going out. I met one, and she seemed beautiful and lovely and I dated her for 3 months during which time she used to freak on me for thinking I was cheating on her with my female roommate. She threw a cell phone at my head in the middle of a busy intersection after screaming "Fuck you asshole!" at me. She slugged me once in the jaw. She used to try to trap me by asking me a random question ("What street did you live on when you were little?" and I'd give her a street name of one of the various houses we lived in) and then two weeks later she'd ask me the same question, but word it totally differently on purpose and if my answer varied at ALL from the first question (the second time I think I just told her another street I'd lived on) she would lose her shit and scream at me. The end of it was when she informed me that after her ex had broken up with her she actually hired a Private Investigator to tail him and make sure he wasn't seeing anyone else. I ran away from her as fast as I could. That didn't stop her from calling me all the time for 6 months after. Yeah...that kind of crazy.

I guess my point is this. When I finally DID find Mrs. QT (online, same website as I'd always used), it was when I totally discarded every last expectation I had, every last trait or personality aspect I thought I was looking for, but had realized I actually knew shit all about what I wanted. Instead, on my profile I just described me, and said if you think I might be up your alley then message me. The 2nd girl who did so was the one, and she's been the one for the last 4 years now.

No girl is going to meet your expectations, ever. The best you can hope for is that you meet someone your personality meshes with well with. My gf has a bunch of interests that are not my own, and has a number of personality traits I don't share either, but we DO also have a LOT in common as well, but we didn't know that to begin with...we found that out over time and that's what is key.

Try to approach each new girl without expectations, and just see who they are, not who you feel they should be.

Going out is good, but don't expect to meet a decent girl in a bar or a club. That never works.

Online is actually a really good place simply because it's easy to talk to strangers, and the number of people on there is large. You may have to wade through a lot of weirdos, but the good ones are there too, and they may be just like you.

We've had really bad winds and the electricity has been off all day, we've had to come down to my aunties to get some food and warmth but it might not be back on till the morning, our fence has been blown down and some of the trees/roof tiles. The lights are flickering in this street as well. Oh noes.

@OP - My groove is trampled by the crap-tastic nature of my job. I just realized that I've spent too much of it slacking off on the computer and got little done. I;;ve moved the same file around 6 times, when it only would take me 5 minutes to complete it.

I just got in from an extended shift doing extra hours for an operation that mostly involved walking around the same area as a "high visibility presence" sort of thing. Which is fine. Well, I just did some digging, and if I manage to obtain both of the BEST scholarships that I can possibly get, the cost of college would come down to the exact same amount I would pay to go to my #2 choice... without scholarships.
