Day light savings time! I've got no idea how one hour can screw with my sleep so badly, but it does. I hate Monday mornings as it is, but the first one after dst is brutal.

Got a cold coming on. Got a job interview tomorrow. Got delayed at work until 7pm due to being lured into a massive slagging off session of a mutual enemy!!! Curse my thirst for gossip, it gets me into all kinds of scrapes.

Problemset due at midnight, which I will absolutely not be able to finish.

It's not that I don't know how. It's that the notation the professor is using has never been discussed before, is extremely non-standard, and I've got my suspicions that he's dropping constants all over the place.

We've had no electricity for about an hour this morning, which is plenty funny for an IT company. Nobody raged though.

Lack of air conditioning in an office building (not sure if Centz is in one) can be dangerous since all the computers and people and equipment are generating heat.
Not to mention Centz is in Oz which means it must be insanely hot there to begin with, I wouldn't want to be in a building beginning to act like a thermos.

Ah yes, the land of Oz. Well, people can fare for themselves really, there's tonnes of ways to adapt to climate conditions.
However, computers might indeed tend to overheat... which is kinda bad, true enough.

In this day and age... sounds a bit foolish. But then again I don't know what the job situation is like in the "Mad scientist" section or whether or not you're trying to build up some kind of impressive resume and these 2 years would damage your future opportunities.

Basically, the first 10 years post phd need to be a rapid climb up the career ladder if I really want to get somewhere serious. So the 2 year job would leave me in the same position I am now without having made much progress. Fine if I want an average career.........

How likely is the better job? Or is it all up in the air, and just a possibility? The 2 year thing sounds like the only thing it has going for it is the fact that it's a job, now...

Assuming another one I have a decision pending for doesn't work out, my other opportunities are quite fuzzy but potentially much better. I've got about 4 months to continue looking before I'm broke.

I say aim high Mez, don't settle!!

I still say come to Australia and work in my faculty... the HR staff here are lovely :)

And yes, without aircon in summer here it gets between 30 - 40 degrees in our buildings. If the air con if off for more than an hour-ish without news of when it will be back on, often some of us will go home.
