First day in my new gym yesterday (moved with my PT). Three others came over from Wakefield as it was PT's first evening teaching classes, and I'm so glad we were there because this gym is utterly miserable. Not a single person thanked her at the end of classes, just left without a word. Nobody queues or waits, they just barge through because they're clearly more important, and there is no talking or laughter or any levity at all (which we had in abundance at the old one) - they're all just stone faced and miserable. It's also the first time I've been wolf whistled at in a gym (don't get me wrong, I completely ignore it, but added to everything else you definitely register it's a very different atmosphere).

Hopefully it'll improve for PT teaching once she's had a few weeks at it. I'll happily go to a gym and get on with what I'm doing and ignore everyone, so I can't say it will stop me going or anything, but I think we all left with new found appreciation for the old gym. It had its problems but at least the atmosphere was pleasant.

Oh man that sucks but in that guys defence have you considered not being a woman, and then you wouldn't be whistled at? ;)

In seriousness I get a bad atmosphere at a gym. Perhaps I don't feel it as keenly as you but being a bit overweight I always feel the atmosphere going in, a good gym I'll feel happy to get on with stuff but I've been in a place where it felt like I was being judged. It's like yes I know I'm not in shape, why do you think I'm here?

What is PT? Personal Trainer? Of what? Are you into some kind of Ultimate Bird Fighting now?

Yes, Personal Trainer. And I really wish the answer to the second question was yes! Posted Image

No, I should think you might feel it more than me actually. They can be really judgmental places and it shouldn't be like that for anyone.

That's what Lucey (PT) said, it's a symptom of it being a commuter gym in a big city centre. I mean, Wakefield is in the city centre but that was much more a "home" gym for people.

Best decision I ever made: moving into a small apartment building with a gym. Don't need to leave my building so I actually feel like going, and go at 6:30AM so I never see anyone. 10/10 highly recommended.

Dude, so many things wrong with that sentence. I'd cling onto the winkey thing for dear life.

My wife is still pushing me for an outhouse with a personal gym in our back garden. But we're not bloody made of money.

Yesterday, upon the stair, I saw a man who wasn't there. He wasn't there again today. Oh, how I wish he'd go away.

Oh, I'm sure. It just sails eerily close to such claims as 'If she didn't want to be harassed, she shouldn't have worn such short skirts" and the like. I'd like to counteroffer that those dog whistlers just should try to not be total dickheads.

On that note, do people say 'har-RAS-sed' or 'HAR-rassed' (stress on the capital syllable)? I always thought it was supposed to be pronounced as the former, but increasingly on the news I hear people using the latter.

The sprog is mildly ill and nursery caught the symptoms and banned him for 48hours so I can't pretend he is fine. Got a long day ahead juggling teleconferences and childcare. He's going to have the best day of chocolate and tv bribes.

Some idiot ran a red light and nearly ran me over in the process.

What the hell is wrong with people? Red means STOP. It's a pretty basic concept.

See, there is your problem. You're assuming most people are capable of grasping "basic concepts".

Gonna be a long week.

Even so, i tend to proceed on the assumption drivers/other drivers will do the stupidest thing possible.
I've avoided a LOT of death that way.

My son's head daycare teacher (who was once my daughters as well) is Korean-Canadian and was walking to work today with her husband and son, and some old white lady screamed obscenities at them for "not wearing masks" "endangering people" ect. I guess because they're Asian? And then she SPAT at them.

I am going to need everyone to keep their racist cow grannies out the street please.

Fucking terrible. I wish I could have been there. I'd have put that old bitch's racist ass on YouTube.
