Speaking of which, looks like I'm going to have to give up on cold drinks. Had an iced coffee while watching Eurovision, spent the next days (including my birthday) sick in bed with a bronchitis. Yay me. That's the second time this year this has happened after having a too cold drink. And the summer's just starting

The cold drink has little to nothing to do with bronchitis. Whoever you met 4-6 days prior to showing any symptoms gave you it and that's why you feel terrible now.

You... are aware that a bronchitis is not necessarily caused by a viral infection, yes? While the overwhelming majority are, being predisposed (by, say, having asthma or chronic bronchitis) means it can flare up at the slightest trigger. So yes, due to having asthma which was partly caused by an acute bronchitis going untreated for months a couple years ago, means an inflamed throat caused by too cold drinks means I am headed to bronchitis town fast and hard and staying there for the next month, and a couple times every year. Another ridiculous trigger is not wearing a scarf when it's windy outside and below 15°C. I think it's stupid, too, thank you very much

Yep, this is a cold iron situation. You will need to cut her entirely off. The whole "good sign/take me on holiday" comment is proof enough that she's taking any show of even banal mildness as a show of emotion to grasp onto that you love her back.

Sorry man, that's a tough situation to go through (for both of you).

went on a date last night.
I don't go on dates very often and this is the first time I've went on a date with someone I really don't don't know. Its always been someone I already knew, or at least we had a load of common acquaintances. But anyway, she was a lovely girl, very talkative, which is good because (despite what some people here who have met me might think) I am generally quite a quiet person, and have no problem sitting in silence for long periods of time (I've been drunk at the bbqs and when I met morgy in oslo).
Absolutely beautiful blue eyes and a wonderful happy smile, and comes with impressive tracts of land.
we went out for dinner and a few drinks (I only had one as I was driving) and got one fairly well, although her love of soaps and insistence that the acting in them was excellent was somewhat baffling.
But there was something niggling me at the back of my head the whole way home after I had dropped her off, I couldn't figure it out until this morning.

Her smile, eyes and general mannerisms are incredibly like one of my ex girlfriends (the one that broke up with me, much to my dismay at the time) and I got to thinking then about (once I had done the whole shaking my fist at the sky and moping over her for a year) how we weren't overly compatible in the long run because of our differences. I think this girl may have a similar set of differences from me (and strikes me as quite a girly girl, I'd much rather a tomboy type). Is there any real point in seeing her again? am I being too hasty in this judgement?

Yeah Mac you are being too hasty. The thing you need to remember is that she is *not* your ex. There may be similarities and it may be that over time more come to the fore but would you throw it away because of first impressions? It may be that you get on much better and because you are older and (presumably) wiser, you can perhaps avoid pitfalls.

To chuck it all away without giving it a chance (there seems to be a lot of positives) is foolish. If you can't get rid of that feeling the more you get to know her, then reconsider or maybe even talk to her about it. Be a grown up!
