We took our son to try out some classes today. We happened to go on Observation Week - when parents are allowed in the classes to watch their kids - and before each class it was made clear that phones weren't allowed.

During the dance class, one of the kids turned around, all smiles, to look at her mum but her mum was using her phone. I watched as the kid slowly lost her smile and started getting teary. She looked over again a little later after being praised for her plié and the mum was still looking at her phone and the girl burst out crying. Even though she spent the rest of the class crying, everytime she looked at her mum the mum was on her phone.

I felt so bad for her.

The problem with doing that is I'm making an assumption about *why* she is on the phone.

I remember going to my youngest brother's primary school performance and there was a woman who was constantly on her phone in the row in front of us. Mum kept whispering to me about it and how you could see her son looking disappointed. I leaned forward under the pretence of picking up my water bottle and snooped. From what I saw, it was pretty clear she was texting someone about someone being in hospital. I told my mum and she felt really bad. It turned out that her brother, the boy's uncle, had been in an accident that morning but the mum didn't want her son to miss out on the performance. I know because mum felt so bad about assuming the worse about her that she went up and apologised afterwards. Nevermind it made me look like a real creep for reading over her shoulders. 😂

I loved bubble gum when I was a kid! I think it was one of my favorite Hallowe'en treats, right after any kind of chocolate. I used to buy Bazooka and / or Hubba Bubba - grape flavor forever! - at my local corner store. I think the Bazooka ones were like 10 cents apiece, but man were those comics dumb.
Alas for me though, once when I was about 11 I was happily chewing away when the gum actually ripped out one of my loose molars. I can't remember what kind of gum it was, but needless to say I was traumatized; my groove took months to recover from that.

Back in post-Soviet Ukraine, it was not uncommon to buy bubble gum and discover that some asshole had substituted it for rubber and resold it. Or the the manufacturer never bothered to use real bubble gum. As a kid, I loved the stuff anyway, which is why bubble gum will forever be associated with disappointment for me. Imagine spending your cherished little pocket money on nothing.

Then again, we also had instantly flammable coockies.

I accept that people are generally morally reprehensible, hell I'm far from an angel, but how people can so wilfully deny their entitalism and xenophobia/otherism is beyond me.

But outside of that. My entire make up seems to be slowly changing, generally I was a happy/optimist/cheerful person with (irl outside of mafia breakdowns) a really long fuse and generally laid back. Sober, drunk, tired, awake, whatever. My world views and outlook didn't overly change, unless I had a brutal hangover,but thats understandable.
But this last year or more I have definitely found myself being a lot more short tempered and my, I don't know word, emotional base, mood, whatever. I can just be up and down like a fucking rollercoaster. All of a sudden the world has started to get to me
