A mate at work died today. 21.

Being analytical is sometimes a curse as I've pieced together COD as being septic shock inducing heart failure, caused by an infection to an open compound tib/fib.

It's hit me. 21. No fucking age. We are one and all ephemeral, and I come to realise this more and more every day.

I've done it but I'm still getting them and videos of horses giving birth. I need new bloody friends.

God damned bastard motherhood blogs crowding out my Facebook feed. I've never liked a single one but different friends like different ones so my feed is full of the stupid things. They all say the same "Oh I'm such a terrible mother" and "let's all support each other through the terrible hardships". JUST SHUT UP AND GET ON WITH YOUR FUCKING LIFE YOU SILLY SODS.

Hurrah For Gin, Totes Inappropes, Part Time Working Mummy, Bumb Baby and Me are serial offenders but there seem to be millions more. I can't escape them without culling my friends and that is getting increasingly tempting.

The worst part is that I get sucked into reading them. They're somehow more tempting than the Daily Mail. And then I get sucked into reading the comments which make me want to kill myself.

URGH.

If they're showing up because your friends have liked the post or the pages, you can use the little arrow at the top right of the post to stop seeing things from that page or the site it links.

If your friends are sharing them, then you might be less fortunate but you might be able to reduce how often you see them using the same method?

Shit. I am an idiot.

I just got off the phone with a sales person from some phone company.

He caught me off guard and wanted to sell me a pretty good data plan for my phone. Which I thought was a great idea but he wanted me to close the deal immediately. Now this in and of itself isn't surprising, because that's how sales works, but he "just heard from his boss" that there was December offer he could still get me if I signed up right now. Again, I'm pretty sure there was no boss, he was just using tried and tested tactics.

But the dumb thing is that to get him off the phone I gave him my personal security number and the 16 digit number and ccv on my credit card... which was incredibly dumb of me. Even though he had a lot of info on me and "the background noise" was very authentic, this guy could just had been a scammer and I just gave him the keys to the vault.

I need to fucking think before I ever do something dumb like that again.

Now I am anxiously keeping an eye on my bank account and my e-mail to see if I actually receive a confirmation e-mail from the phone company.

Do yourself a HUGE favour. Call your CC company, and tell them what happened, and tell them to put a watch on your account. This way, and unscrupulous activity will be nailed early.

That said, this was a scam man. NO company worth it's salt will ASK you for your CC info over the phone like this. It's far too dangerous for them to do. As such, my guess is you just gave your CC number up to scammers.

If I were you, I'd call and cancel that card, and get a new one issued to you....just to pre-emptively cut off the scammers before they try anything. It also helps in that when they TRY to use the old card number, it's flagged and they will get caught.

But yeah, call and either warn your CC company that this might happen...or better yet cancel your current card, and get a new one.

Backing this up.

No authentic company will ask for those details over the phone. Ever. Cancel the card

ummm... I did fundraising over the phone and we accepted CC donations. Encouraged them, in fact, to set up monthly schedules.
Wouldn't ask for the CCV, no, though.

EDIT: messing with me: the elbow. been doing some stretches for it, and I may have over-done them, as now I get stabby pain with some movements that's NOT the usual muscle pain.

Hoping it's just reaction to the cold snap, but who knows?

I dunno. Seems like if it trends that torturers decide to stream it live and get caught, that's an improvement on just torturing in private.

Woke up to an SMS from my mobile network that they are cancelling my annual data plan in two days.

Shit.

I still had until March on this plan. WTF people. This is a public sector company.

I have had it. I am changing networks. Their coverage was poor anyway, I only stuck around for the cheap data

Why did they make special mention of the races of the alleged assailants and the victim so early in the piece? Is this standard in US news pieces? Or just a Fox thing?

I don't think there's any doubt the incident is racially motivated, so yeah, the race of the assailants and victims is actually very important in this story's context.

This isn't a story where the black people are being profiled or singled out.

I dunno, it just seems you normally go with "assaulted by four males blah blah blah" and then maybe tack on "of african-american appearance" at the end or something.

I understand it seems to be a racially-motivated attack, but generally there seems to be a bit more of a PC 'format' that gets followed. Although I may be introducing Australian-reporting styles here and extrapolating from that.

It just seemed jarring to me as I read it, is all.

If it was an Australian newspaper, they would have added 'believed to be Muslim' in regards to the perpetrators descriptions. Gotta keep that climate of fear going, afterall.

It's neither rare nor standard. I don't think there is a standard, tbh, though if your instinct is telling you "they're doing this for an unsavory reason" then you should probably trust that instinct.

I was all excited to get back to jiu jitsu after missing several classes for my vacation. Dislocated my shoulder and am out for who knows how long.

Weird fall sideways?

I shot a single leg and when he sprawled and his weight came down on my shoulder it just separated. I've got bad shoulders, it used to happen in wrestling and football so I'm almost used to it. I just haven't exercised like this for 20 years so I forgot how easily it can pop out.

My team lost first round of playoffs. It's a really annoyiong loss, because we started as a better team, missed 3 open net opportunities.

Then we had a questionable penalty call, a rolling ball slipping out of our keeper's hands, and an own-goal rebound.

Their 4th goal was a nice shot, I'll give them that. But before that.. 3 flukes. sigh.

Matador's uncle passed away over night. He discovered he had lung cancer two weeks before Christmas.
His wife responded by asking for a divorce, as you do.
They have four kids age 4 to 18. I feel really sorry for them. Losing a parent sucks. Losing one when your young sucks balls.

Matador wasn't really close to his uncle but he wants to go to the funeral. Inreally don't want to go. I'm so over funerals that I don't even want to attend my own one. He says he is happy to go by myself but this is the first death he has ever experienced (in his own family) so I'm not sure. A part of me feels I should go just in case he needs moral support. Majority of me is wordlessly screaming at the idea of going.

And this is going to sound pretty selfish given the hell other people are going through but I keep just hoping this won't affect our plans. The funeral is on Thursday and Matador and I have plans to see Halestorm that night. Which normally wouldn't be a big issue except for the fact that we haven't gone out together by ourselves (no kid, friends, family etc) in over a year. We've both been really looking forward to it. It's gained more importance than simply going to a concert.

So I feel pretty awful that that's my main concern. I haven't said anything about it (except here) but I'm really worried we'll have to cancel. We need to find a new sitter as I'm certainly not going to allow his mum to still sit for us (it's her brother that passed). She started to say how she might still be up to minding Rip after the funeral and we were like 'Yeah, that's really not something you need to be worried about right now. You have more important things to focus on.' She tried to argue that she could still do it, knowing how much it means to us, and we basically had to remind her that her brother just died and was being buried that day to point out how completely justified it was for her to not babysit.

So basically, I don't want to go to the funeral but feel I should but I know my ptsd will have a field day if I do go and I'm feeling bad about being more concerned about whether we can still make our concert or not. Ugh.
