The boy has had congestion and a nasty fever since Friday night. Had a look at his throat last night and saw swollen tonsils with big yellow streaks on them.
Doctor confirmed tonsillitis today and gave us penicillin which will take 24 hours or so to cut in. Told us to keep up with the kiddy nurofen/paracetemol we've been using to counteract the fever.
Poor little guy has actually been quite good with it, barely complaining, just very tired and sick.
In the meantime, I've doubled my daily dose of garlic/horseradish/C tablets. But I expect whatever virus and/or bacteria that triggered his tonsilltis to hit the rest of us at some point. At least the Mrs and I don't have tonsils thanks to getting them removed in the 70s. For the life of me I have no idea why they don't do it these days. I know so many of the younger ones at work who can have bouts up to 4 times a year because they still have the stupid things. Yes I know they're part of the lymphatic system but since I was apparently a sickly child before I had mine out (they were actually poisoning me after a bout of flu) and then afterwards I was a lot better and still have a pretty good immune system, wouldn't that suggest they've mostly obsolete?
