Uh....well its yes and no. There are AC taxis, but extremely expensive ones, mainly Uber and uber type services, definitely not affordable for me. Maybe occasionally for a really long trip.

Buses... in the last two years AC buses have been introduced, but in limited numbers, on a limited number of routes, And the fares are 3-5 times that of the non AC buses. Not very helpful for me as there are none on my most frequently travelled routes.

And as for my sanity - I question it on a daily basis.

And Amph, I believe this hot and humid combination is quite prevalent in the Himalayan foothills? Terai etc?

Also with this hot a summer, there had better be a strong monsoon, or we are going to have massive droughts. Of course strong monsoon will also have floods...

We sometimes manage to get up to the much longed for 30. And then everybody grumbles about it being 'too hot for them'.

And then it rains and drops back down to 12, causing more grumbling.

UK weather is actually really good compared to other countries. I remember the humid wet heat in the rainforest in Belize - in the city it must be unbearable.

Terai doesn't have nearly as much flooding as Bangladesh and Bengal though. That's the one major difference.

I love the UK weather. It is moderate enough that anything at either end feels like a huge treat - snow or sun. And we get to have different wardrobes for each part of the year and it feels so liberating when the evenings get light but cosy when it is cold and dark in winter. I do wonder how different life would be if I lived somewhere that you could lead an outdoor life though. A few friends moved to Oz and are always posting FB pics of beaches nand surfing and stuff. I'd probably still be really lazy but have less to blame on the rain.

Believe me the sun is overrated. Some of the best days I have had has been when its been really cloudy and overcast with a brisk moist wind. We would go for long walks, visit the city lakes - stay out and have fun.

I really love your description of English evenings. Thats the type of environment I can imagine myself writing and being creative in.

Indian weather isn't all bad. Right now we are having a Kalbaishakhi - a Nor'wester storm so called because it comes from the north west. Cold high winds, heavy rain, thunder. This brings the temperature down for a couple of days. This is supposed to happen once a week or more. But we haven't had any for a month which brought on this abnormal heat.


I really wish our scientists, businessmen and policymakers would get their shit together. We get so much sun all the time. We have huge tracts of barren land in the west. With some really large scale solar plants, we could probably power the entire country and begin to shut down these polluting thermal power plants. But that is a distant dream.

We don't get roasted, we don't get frozen, and although it's incomparable to farming, my veg is loving it - beans, corn, tomatoes, peas, pumpkins etc have been getting 3-4 days of sun followed by 2 of rain. They think it's great.

The only Uk weather that bugs me is wind - which we get a lot of where I live. It's noisy and annoying and it trashes everything.

I suppose it does depend which bit you live in. I've lived in the North West and South West of England and it rained a lot but now I'm in the East/South East of the country the reduction in the amount of rain and increase in temperature is very obvious.

That rain you hate? Couple it with the sun we've been getting these last couple of weeks and literally every plant has gone from barely starting to produce leaves to full lush green growth. The lawn needs mowing every week else it becomes a jungle. The fields are full of crops, pigs are wallowing in mud, what exactly are you farming that doesn't love water and sun?

Matador and I have looked everywhere and we can't find them. My ensuite door was open so I'm wondering if he put some down the floor drain (I've caught him putting cotton tips down it before). I didn't even want the tablets in the house in the first place. Gah!

At least you know he'll be a very successful bankrobber in a couple of decades.

He is already showing promise with his pickpocketing skills.


Pets are all good, combination locks have been bought and installed - all in all, what could have been an absolute nightmare turned out okay. We've re-evaluated all of our other childproofing as well so this shouldn't (knock on wood) happen again.
