Apparently 'tis the season for people I know quite well to fall over and seriously hurt themselves.

With regard the flooding - I'm lucky living in Barnsley (plus I'm on a hill already) so the worst I get is a wet road surface out front and a sodden yard out back. Work though (as Han might attest) is right next to the Sheaf, and it's flooded more than once. A perverse part of me is hoping for some more rain in Sheffield so I can kick back with the Mrs for a few more days.

Used to hope for that when I worked there too! Glad you guys are okay though.

Lemmy is dead. Another one I had always thought to be indestructible.
Apparently it was just 2 days after being diagnosed with "an extremely aggressive cancer". Of course it was - do you think a wussy cancer would have killed Lemmy?

Hahaha. I was thinking the exact same.
Still really messing with groove though. Guy was a bloody legend.

Got a bruised shoulder (again: why do I get hurt playing co-ed more then men's league?). Rotating hurts a little. Lifting my arm shoulder height and above is a good 5-6/10. At least it's only my left arm.

Meeting a load of the other half's family for the first time (we've been together six years - this feels like it's been rather late coming!) and I'm nervous as balls. I have a sister-in-law who looks like she belongs on the front of Vogue and they all think is perfect (in fairness, she is lovely) - I am having huge "Oh boy, time to meet the disappointing one!" feelings right now.

Honestly, if your YouTube channel is anything to go by you're pretty lovely yourself, don't worry about it too much.
I've been sick, haven't eaten anything in the last 30 hours, and I just experienced the first actual earthquake of my life.

Yeah, what NiF said. You can't possibly be the "disappointing one" when you seem to be fun, charming, and intelligent (and quite pretty to boot). Don't sweat it, I'm sure they'll love ya...that's what families do.

Am sad today. I've worked in the same company as my dad now for 5 years, and he retired today. I'm happy as hell that all his years of hard work have lead him to a happy retirement...but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't sad that I won't see him every day anymore.
It sounds silly and selfish, but it's just made me kinda sad.

Alcohol happened, but I managed to refrain from the suggested topics! Found a couple of cousins who play D&D and we were set for the day!
And thanks guys, you're all lovely

Ian Murdock, founder of Debian Linux (Ubuntu is based on Debian), passed away. While not officially confirmed, he announced that he would commit suicide on twitter.
Ian Murdock dead at 42
I don't really know what to say. Suicide always gets to me.
Ian Murdock was a really important figure in the Linux community. My main operating system, Ubuntu, is based on Debian Linux, founded by Murdock. In fact, the name Debian is just a combination of the his ex-wife's name (Debra) and his own name (Ian): Deb-Ian.

Another way to relieve it is to swallow a spoonful of baking soda. It isn't pleasant but it may help.

Also, very potent. Dissolve the baking soda in a little water and eat something with it, even if it's just a slice of bread.

Aspirin will make the stomach problem worse btw. As will ibuprofen. Aleve or the generic equivalent is best.

Every year, lol. It doesn't even register as a thing any more. At least I still get a long weekend this year...

My sister, who's studying abroad this year, went back to her university yesterday. She boarded the plane with some abdominal pain, pain that worsened considerably and now she's currently undergoing appendectomy in a foreign country with no one there to help or support her. Now, it's a routine procedure, so I'm not overly worried, but it sucks not being able to support her. Also, her phone is dead and she doesn't have a charger with her at the hospital, so I'm not sure when we'll receive an update on her how her surgery went.
Now, we've reached some of her friends there, but the ones we've been in contact with haven't returned to campus from Christmas break. They're trying to reach others who are there, though, and they should be able to get my sister a phone charger, though.
In hindsight, she should probably have gone to a doctor before boarding the plane yesterday, but, hey, hindsight's a bitch.
All in all, great start to 2016.

That sucks. And being unable to help is a horrible feeling.
