Recent local news stories causing me to wonder many things. Gorefest will have heard of this, no doubt.

So, on Sunday night a 7 year old kid went missing near where I live (Locke Park is maybe five minutes' walk away). There was a massive news push to find him yesterday, however at 08:30 yesterday a body was found in a construction site about 3/4 of the way between Locke Park and where he lived. It's almost certainly the kid.

Now, a few questions spring to mind. Locke Park is 2 miles from where this lad lived. Why was a 7 year old out alone (with their friends, but still, no responsible adult from what has been reported)? It seems hugely irresponsible for them to have not kept tabs on the lad. And the body was found in a construction site; if a national newspaper is to be believed (probably not as it's notoriously unreliable), they were aware that this kid often went to the construction site to play when it was empty.

I feel horrible for what's happened but it all seems like it could have been avoided. :/

I know there's a massive difference between 6 and 7, but my oldest is 6 and there's no way I can see me letting him play 2 miles away by himself in a years time.

This story made me lurch inside when I read it yesterday.. Sooooo sad.
Can't help feeling it could have been prevented though....

The general consensus around the area is that the parents shouldn't have let them be out playing on their own like they were. Second-hand reports via people who know people (unreliable sources) state that the mother was often having loud, boozy house-parties. All pointing towards a lack of responsibility, in my mind.

Well, we already know that Social Services are a massive failure in our neck of the woods, judging by the many issues that have been highlighted in the past two years (abuse, neglect, etc). Very sad, very avoidable, not very surprising.
Yesterday, upon the stair, I saw a man who wasn't there. He wasn't there again today. Oh, how I wish he'd go away.

We bought a semi-detached house last year. A few months later, the next-door house got sold. The new owner decided that he wanted an extension at the back and the side. He is going to do most of the 'building' work himself, with a few mates.

They started a few months ago and already the whole project is vastly overrunning and seemingly getting bigger by the day. Not only is he doing the extension, he has basically ripped out the entire content of his house. And with 'ripped out', I truly mean gutted. The house is currently an empty hull. All the internal walls are gone. He also took out the first floor, including all the supporting struts. So when you walk in and look up, you are looking at the underside of his roof. It is really not adhering to building safety regulations, which probably means that no self-respecting builder will touch it, so he'll have to do the entire interior bit himself as well. Heavens only know how he is going to get new support beams in for his future landing, as I cannot imagine that they'll fit through the doorway. So he'll probably have to break the front of his house down as well.

At the moment we're just praying that the whole thing won't collapse and checking our walls daily for cracks appearing. Well, worst case scenario, we may soon be living in a free-standing house. That might be nice.

Social services aren't perfect by any means, but ultimately it's the responsibility of the parents.
It's such a pity that we can't put a bullet in the head of people like that and give their kids to someone who will love them and take care of them properly.

Report him anyway, just to cover yourself for any possibilities. At worst, someone official has had a look at the site, and at best they might find something that needs to be fixed properly and smash him with fines.

One of my best mates was sideswiped by a bus when he was on his motorbike yesterday. He's in the hospital with 2 broken hands, dislocated shoulder and internal injuries. I'll be visiting him tomorrow as he is high as a kite on pain meds now apparently. That's a pity because I'd love to get that on video and play it back for him later ... :( :(

I'm just glad he's OK. Mostly.

Ouch.

In other pain-related news, I seem to have acquired a little cut around the rim of my septum piercing (8mm diameter), which is currently sorer than a Hetan at a Kruppe party (such appetite!) and crusty with blood. Wonderful.

I think I'm going through the beginning of the end of my relationship of nearly 16 years.
It's bloody horrible.

Grandmother passed away this morning. She was 99, a good long life. But I'm still finding it hard to hold it together at work. Losing family sucks.

My condolences QT. Can't you get some time off from work? In a situation like this a bit of family time usually helps.

Sorry for your loss, QT. 99 is a great age, though. I hope she spent most of it in good health and comfort.

Thanks Andorion. Yeah, I can leave when I need to apparently. I'll just take off early today. Thankfully I was already going to be heading to my in-laws for dinner tonight, so I'll be around my wife's family, who are very loving and that will help.

Thanks. Yeah 99 is a great age, and she was comfortable and never in any pain throughout the end time.

So, further to this... Struggled through yesterday. Got home, reinforced the Kaos inside my snout with a steel tunnel. Went to be at half 11. Woke up at half 12, absolute agony. Had to dig the Kaos out of my nose as the fistula was starting to envelop it. Downsized to the 7mm, but fuck me, I've never known pain like it. Now at work and dosing up with co-codamol and ibuprofen.
