Got in an accident that shutdown the interstate today. Nothing quite like the realization that ain't shit you can do and you're about to take a real big blow. Like: "Yep, this is about to happen. Here we go."
Trouble arrives when the opponents to such a system institute its extreme opposite, where individualism becomes godlike and sacrosanct, and no greater service to any other ideal (including community) is possible. In such a system rapacious greed thrives behind the guise of freedom, and the worst aspects of human nature come to the fore....

Had situation like that once that thankfully didn't end in a crash because without a doubt everyone would had died a fiery, terrible death. Three friends and I were driving to B.C. from Alberta, so mountain driving, passing semis and slower drivers, that kind of stuff. We switch drivers because the man driving was tried and wanted to sleep. The man who took over had no experience driving on highways that far outside of the city and thus no concept on how to pass a slow vehicle (in this case a semi) anyways he gets to about the midway of the semi and simple matched the speed, A little ways away another semi was coming toward us and still he hadn't speed up. I was 1000% percent sure I was about to die, and oddly quickly made peace with that. Couldn't really do anything about it except accept it. It was a close call, both semi were hammering on their horns but thankfully the man who was driver got around the other semi and we didn't die.

Reminds me of far too many bad movies with car chases where the hero/ine driver's car is being rammed into from the side by the baddies and they just keep trying to match or increase speed. It's called a brake, people, it's not that difficult a concept. Even Maverick figured it out: " I'm going hit the brakes and he'll fly right by."

Point, HD did say the driver wasn't that experienced in highway driving. I've had a few instances where fucktards (obviously with tiny penises or the female equivalent) actually speed up as you attempt to pass them, so instead of doing 100kmph and rounding them up easily, all of a sudden you're doing 115 and still not past them half a km later. At some point your mind goes either "Fuck this bastard, I'm taking them come whatever" or "Nah, it isn't worth it". I've found my tendency to end up on the latter path increases the closer the oncoming traffic gets ... :p

ASTHMA - went to bed last night and everything was fine. Woke up this morning and I can hear the wheeze of my breathing, as well as the obvious discomfort of not being able to take a deep breath.

No idea what triggered it either.

I guess I get to look forward to a day of feeling wiped out tired. Yay :rolleyes:

Car is still driveable as of this morning's inspection. My driver door opens about half way, passenger door is done. Basically got pinned between a guard-rail and another car. Thankfully, it was a few hundred yards before the concrete barriers and was metal and thus more forgiving.

Somebody owes me, there wasn't anything I could do. Car that forced me out was driven by a woman 9 months pregnant, so she got taken by ambulance to the hospital. EMT's game me the vitals and I waived going in so I could go to work. We'll see what happens. Lady claims a semi jack-knifed in front of her forcing her into my lane. All I saw was an extremely slow moving object half in/half out of my lane all of the sudden and then *instincts.

I had a somewhat similar situation to Studlock's recently, where I thought I was going to be caught as part of a horrific accident.

A bit of background for those who aren't familiar with the area. On highway 99 we have the Massey Tunnel. It is actually two seperate tunnels, one with two northboud lanes and one with two southbound lanes. The tunnels are narrow, with a few feet clearance from the lane to a concrete wall. During rush hour counterflow lanes are put in. In the morning the normally southbound tunnel has one southbound lane and one northbound lane, with the same for the northbound tunnel in the afternoon.

I was heading southbound in the morning, and with a bit lighter than normal traffic we were going around 70km/hr. Traffic is wizzing past in the other direction at around 90. A bit over two thirds of the way through the tunnel, the minivan in front of me pulled out to pass. I could see the line of ten plus cars headed right for him. Had the minivan accelerated a little bit more when they changed lanes, changed lanes a second later, the oncoming traffic being a little slower on the brakes or any number of other little things it would have been a massive head on collision. As it was, they were missed by a couple feet at most.

After reading that, I think it will sound a lot worse to those familiar with the area.

As for the depression related issue I posted above, it seems to have been a two day incident. Still going to go see someone about it later today.

TWO THINGS UGH:

Within 12 hours of getting back on OkCupid, I'm already inundated, both with random "hey whats up" (ummm, nothing else to say?) and "you're so wrong/stupid" (why go out of your way to inform someone of your worthless opinion on a DATING site???). One was this upbeat-sounding "Have no fear!" message that I learned was referring to my unwillingness to be completely out-of-the-closet and my choice to limit myself to dating men/male-presenting people at this point in my life. Once I informed the dude that telling me not to fear is kinda not up to him, and also a little disrespectful of my own personal situation and my ability to choose in my life, he got butthurt and decided I was "ridiculous."

Pro tip: don't dictate to a member of the lgbtq community how/when/if/to-whom to come out. It's literally not up to you and you have no say in it, and yes, it's really REALLY RUDE to do so.

Second thing: the shooting in Santa Barbara. A whiny, entitled, misogynystic MRA goes on a spree after posting online this selection of gems: "You girls have never been attracted to me. I don’t know why you girls aren’t attracted to me. But I will punish you all for it" and "I'm going to enter the hottest sorority house of UCSB and I will slaughter every single spoilt, stuck-up, blonde s**t that I see inside there. All those girls that I've desired so much, they would've all rejected me and looked down on me as an inferior man if I ever made a sexual advance towards them" and "I’ll take great pleasure in slaughtering all of you. You will finally see that I am, in truth, the superior one. The true alpha male".

Not only does this INCREDIBLY TERRIFYING behavior and awful result of violence mess with my groove, but the amount of people/media blaming it on MENTAL ILLNESS. HEY GUESS WHAT? I KNOW MANY MEnTALLY ILL PEOPLE, INCLUDING MYSELF, WHO DO NOT, and NEVER WILL, RESORT TO VIOLENCE.

AND?? There were an overwhelming number of men on this particular forum he posted to (basically a MRA cesspit) AGREEING with him and ENCOURAGING HIM. It's not mental illness, it's fucking male entitlement and rampant misogyny, and dismissing it as mental illness is avoiding a serious problem in our society, while continuing to perpetuate a harmful stigma towards mentally ill people.


I kinda hate everything right now. Except my purple hair. I like that. :rolleyes:

Just read about that shooting. Yet I bet not one thing will change in the USA about access to weapons, screening applicants, or limiting the type/number of weapons people can have.

I hope you have a truly wonderful society over there if this sort of thing is the price you're willing to continue to pay to enjoy it. You might as well just get used to it and hope there isn't a crazy out there with your name on a list. Or no names at all in the truly random cases.

I whole bunch of flies appeared in my bathroom yesterday evening and I have no idea where the come from. The room itself is tiny and only accessible through another room, where I have been the whole time and never noticed anything. The only ohter way I can think of is the supply shaft where the water pipes run through, that has an opening behind the mirror, but that seems an unlikely way for flies to go. Maybe I should ask my upstairs and downstairs neighbors, if they have a similar problem.

I also wanted to fresh up my hair colour, but I don't think I can stand spending an hour in the bathroom right now. :rolleyes:

HHD over here one of the newspapers seemed to be trying to focus on the fact that because his dad worked as assistant director on a "violent fantasy" film - the Hunger Games - that had something to do with it!!

While I definitely think the guy had a mental illness I definitely don't think that's why he murdered people. If you watch his videos (which would be fucking hilarious in a James Bond Villain way if not for him actually killing people) he has a deep seated hatred of women in general and women who 'choose other men than him' specifically. Dude was narcissistic, misogynistic fuckwade who happen to have Asperger's, and while I definitely understand mental health issues can motivate peoples actions I highly doubt this kids main motivator was so. Pisses me off when people try to blame mental issues for every mass shooting (and not even look at other options). The illness is not your destiny, and never will be.

The boy brought another present home from daycare. This time - Gastro! :p

He had it on Thursday, then the Mrs on Friday morning. By 7pm Friday night the stepdaughter was victim #3. Then I had all the fun of waiting for the inevitable, which hit a few hours later. Good times. :p
