I have to stay in a cockroach infested pub until I sort out a house, since I just got to this town to work.
It was meant to be ready for me.

So I just made an excellent decision on a movie to watch before bed: motherfucking Threads.
Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

It got to 45 degrees today. That's 113 for the barbarians out there. Ugh.

Yup, I went outside for all of about 30 seconds earlier this afternoon. It felt like walking into a blast furnace so I turned around, walked back inside and revised any plans I had for going anywhere. Fuck that shit.

People get into all sorts of debates about what the greatest inventions ever are, but I'd like to nominate aircon/refrigeration right up there. "Making the intolerable, tolerable".

Now if only someone could find a way to do that for people. ;)

I think something messed up with my loans, I was only awarded 300 dollars for books...which isn't really enough. My job is seasonal, so I have basically no money saved because it was spent on living expenses during the first semester of school. Basically I have to go to the bank (gross) or become a drug dealer or try to pass the semester without text books. On top of that my provinces student loan site won't let me log on and there telephone services only is a Friday to Monday thing. Hopefully I get it all sorted out Monday, the first day of the winter semester.

I have failed my first New Year Resolution. This is a new record.

We lost playoffs 2-1, with the second goal being literally 40 seconds to the end of the game. (and subsequent extra time and penalties)

Adding insult to the injury is the fact that for our side I scored my first goal on this team sine I've played fro them in undergrad, and my first non-penalty indoor goal in about 3 years (being a defender, I don't come up much).

this second goal was basically a fluke, there was no way i could've covered the guy from an awkward rebound, but still.... FUCK ;)

also making me not happy: i'll prolly be hungover at work tomorrow cuz of this.

I'll trade you.

It snowed here yesterday. About 15cm.
Then the temp rose and it rained. So we got ice. Lots and lots of ice. Covered by water. This is about as much fun as you might think.
Tonight, the temp is dropping to -35. So all that water is going to freeze. A lot.

Barbarian here! It's 29 F here in Louisiana and that's insanely cold for my area 35 miles north of Gulf of Mexico. However I fucking love winter since we are mostly sweating 8-9 mths of the yr. even though we still don't get to the 113F mark...95-102 is common everyday.

I worked in gulf shores, alabama for a while...you must be freezing...

Meanwhile...it was -10 f here with -40 f wind chill yesterday...
My work truck wouldn't start...had to work out of my personal vehicle...got frostbite and had to have my finger amputated... J/k about that last part...but it was pretty damn cold :-)

Couple of the other half's uni friends are getting married, and I'm finding myself spending more and more time gritting my teeth through one of the best Bridezilla impressions I've ever seen.

It's not until September and I'm already rather sick of the whole thing.

Don't get me wrong, I generally enjoy weddings. I don't enjoy the run up to them one bit...Posted Image

My employer just laid off 25% of its workers, glad I wasn't one of them but that's a bad sign - Curse you, Economy!

I started the year at work with the second assistant at our firm (me being the other one) coming in on Jan 2 and announcing these are her last few hours at the firm. I was also greeted by another co-worker (a paralegal), who informed me that her last day is on the 18th, and I'll be taking over at least a portion of her work. (incidentally, due to the crazy cold weather and the fact she lives in a town ont he outskirts of the greater Toronto Area metro-sprawl, she hasn't been in since).

with the remaining 3 lawyers, and me being the sole support staff it unlikely I will get "downsized", but with my workload already virtually doubled, this month will not be fun. Oh, we're also moving at the end of the month.

I hope you are compensated for the extra work.

I discovered the woman I've been enamored with, and trying to make time for a date with for months, has mental health issues, and lied to me to cut a date short, and go smoke pot to "ease" herself. Now she needs "time to sort her self out" and I can't tell whats real about her. Really sweet and great person whos just been kicked around too much and needs support? Or awful person stringing me along?
I then drove home almost three hours away and failed to get the time i wanted on a wildfire fit test. Twenty Third birthday is on Saturday, which is depressing cause I live at home, am single, and my career interests firefighting, writing and film are near impossible to get in to.

I generally don't vomit my issues on people but I'm humiliated and had an extra scotch.
Handy thread!

As someone who worked in the mental health field and lives with a mentally ill family member I can tell you its really tough. If you are really interested in her look up her illness and get to know what is going on with her. Most mentally ill people have difficulty controlling their symptoms sometimes and just need someone that can roll with the punches (not literal punches). Also Pot actually can be almost a miracle drug for psych patient's I have seen it help people like no pharmacy drug can. Sometimes realizing their actions are not personal is really difficult. Its about what is going on with them and nothing you have done. (not that you asked for advice but as someone who has been there I thought I would throw my two cents in) Also Happy almost birthday! There is no shame in living at home at 23. I had several false starts and had to go back home to get on my feet.
