Put it in some rice, steam the rice, add teriyaki, voila!

Today in creative writing class one of my classmates insinuated that I had gone to Africa as a tourist. I'm afraid I may have overreacted, but that remark made my blood boil. Would a tourist have walked through the slums and talked to the people who live there? Or the schools? Or anywhere in Kenya that wasn't Nairobi, or some lodge somewhere?

Irritated.

AIJ - I guess it depends on how your friend meant it. Many words have more meanings/connotations attributed to them beyond what is noted in a dictionary. You'd be the best person (other than your friend) to determine how they intended it and whether your response was appropriate or not.

Anyone know how to shut off an iphone4s if no buttons on it are working? Its been stuck on my facebook pg for about 1 1/2hrs. I guess Ill have to wait for my battery to run down but it was on 86% so I got a bit of a wait.

What happened? In future I'd try to the ipod reboot...hold the power button down with the home button for as long as it takes to shut it off...The other option would be plugging it into your computer and seeing if it boots iTunes where you might be able to eject it and get it to reboot itself.

Nay, you cannae do this on an iPhone. It's locked down tight in the casing.

I found a fairly simple solution to that problem...

That's definitely the next step. They will likely send it to Apple. Alternatively you could take it to your closest Apple store...they might be able to fix something on it in a way you don't know about. Worth a shot since I'm sure you'd rather not have to send it away anywhere which is what ATT will prob do.

Made myself really unpopular with my junior colleagues and peers at work. They're all slagging me off and complaining about me behind my back. I kind of brought it on myself but I don't like being unpopular :D We have a cleaning rota for our DNA-free lab. It's expensive to get contractors in and we're a small business so everyone is supposed to take turns. I'm not on the rota but have been drafted in to manage some work in an emergency. They wanted to add me on to the rota now that I'm using that lab more. I said no because I'm too busy (and because I think I'm too important but I didn't say that bit out loud because I don't like to invite hatred). They all complained so I said "I'll take it to my manager, if he says I have to do it then I will". He agreed I'm more useful doing other things with my time.

If I was in their shoes I'm pretty sure I would think "What a bitch but I'd do the same in her shoes" and that would be the end of it. Two weeks on and they're cold shouldering me and stop talking when I walk in the room. Awkward :D But the annoying sods! I never take a lunch break and I work longer hours than them and they want to add to my workload!! No way am I backing down.

As I understand it (or maybe it's just the use of the word where I live), a tourist is generally sightseeing and staying in hotels. That wasn't why we went. A fine distinction, maybe, but I'm rather protective of it :D

The grown thing to do is to just stare at the person with a mild frown until they feel uncomfortable. Say nothing, just stare and let the magic work.

Objecting to the label "tourist" makes you look like a fool. You know who you are. If they wish to think differently or tell people differently, let them. You can set the record straight with the people who matter later or they will already know the truth.
