has anyone played this yet? I am interested, but all the big news seems to be about its nasty DRM, which is fair seeing as piracy is rife and everyone seems to be having a go...

To tell you the truth. Its a rather bad game.

It feels like a collection of poor minigames in an expensive box.

I would not recommend it at all.

^What he said.

And as a gamer, you should do your duty, and boycott Spore purely for the DRM thing.

Spore fails. It had so much promise....

Although I've heard the Space Age can be fun.

Everybody did.
Hell, it was a super-game. But they killed it. *sigh*

Definitely boycotting it for the DRM, but I MAY pick it up for the DS, just to check it out...used of course, don't want to contribute money to EA for this nonsense.

So last night I was walking downtown for some pizza at like 1am with some friends of mine,
and someone said, "I'm so hungry I could eat a whole pizza."

I said, "I bet I could eat 100 pizzas," and no one understood me. I was sad.

DRM is a form of copy-protection. It prevents the game being installed more than three times, on ANY machine. So if you have two computers, and you install a copy on two, then you get a new one...and one of the other two get formatted.....yeah, well, you then have to convince EA that you aren't pirating their game.
BOOO!

Much as I am against piracy, this sort of restriction is just plain silly. If a pirate wants to get their hands on the game, limiting the install like this isn't going to stop them. Really, what does it achieve over and above the current level of copy protection? Nothing. That's what.

Most dissapointing game of the year. Really looked forward to this. I guess the refference to the sims should have clued me in on the dissapointment. At least the sims could burn. ;)

Penis creatures fighting Vagina creatures using their spunk-tanks sadly get boring in spore after 5 minutes.

Wow! So it gets a big thumbs up for diversity of gameplay, but gets an immense two finger salute for the DRM and also its poor gameplay. Shit!

Hows the game doing in terms of sales? Does anyone care?

I'm gutted about this as spore was one of those look forward to moments in gaming. Reminds me of MOO 3. "You can do anything, but you cant do everything." What a barge load of manure, that game was. I completely ignored the advice of friends and reviews and then 'played' the game for an hour maybe two, and then took out the CD and put it in its box, turned around and walked off into the wilderness...

It's failing, in terms of sails. Gamers have no qualms about boycotting DRM. :p

If the game was amazing people would still buy the game despite the heavy handed DRM, but I can see their point. Why go to all the trouble of publishing a game and then have it ripped and cracked and burned and played for free by pretty much everyone who has access to a computer and can follow instructions.

I mean its great for users, but only for the short term.

Who would install it on three computers? For a start, a serious gamer (with cash) would go through 3 computers in 3 years. So then they can't play their game.

Also, it gets even worse if you have two houses/two computers/etc. Plus, it's punishing the "normal" gamers, who don't pirate, rather than actually stopping the pirates. People will still get pirated copies. So it's pointless.
