Had an amazing day at work today. It was an important night, because we have a new batch of employees starting after their training this weekend, and it was crucial that we get the last batch properly trained so that they are able to get on with the job, while we (the supervisors) are gonna be preoccupied with working with new people from scratch.

Training went well, the trainees were receptive to advice and showed huge improvements, while the rest of the team also did a solid job. The night's results were good, and I'm left feeling confident about the people we've just finished training.

Since what attracts me in my job is the potential to be a problem solver, figuring out where to put the right people to get the necessary result, and what to do to improve a person's performance, seeing everything click, and knowing that my fellow supervisors are working on the same wavelength to the same goal gives me great pleasure.

This is one of those days when I love my job.

Nice! Though if we lived in the same country, I'd be wondering if you were one of my bosses right now. :p

Similar thing is making me happy, as my work's latest trainees all seem to be good people who are picking up the job quickly. Oh, and I also got publicly acknowledged for all the extra work I do at the start of the night - minor downside is that in the past 11 months, I've had this happen two (or is it three? O.o) times so far...there are people there who still have yet to receive a "monthly achiever award" AT ALL, despite being there longer than I by far. :S Awkward.

The only reason no-one was hurt was because that wasn't a professional grenade (or it was a dud)...a proper frag would have killed everyone who was on-screen at the time, and even an HE would have taken out the guy who threw it. But luckily it was neither, lol. Also, cool find.

Porn distorting how young men view sex

YOUNG men getting distorted ideas about sex from porn
They "think it's all about them", says leading businesswoman
Cindy Gallop wants videos of "real sex" to replace porn

A GENERATION of young men is developing extreme ideas about sex from hardcore online porn.

So says Cindy Gallop, a New York businesswoman who is visiting Australia this week and is determined to change their views.

Young men think sex is "all about them" - and it's freaking young women out, Ms Gallop told news.com.au.

Blokes are expected to watch porn because "guys bond around grossness and ridiculousness", Ms Gallop said, adding that many were watching from as young as 11.

They're copying pornography's "extreme" depictions of sex in the bedroom, she said, and those porn videos don't show what real-world sex is all about: "Having a great time."

Ms Gallop is pioneering a form of "real world" porn with a website called Make Love Not Porn.

She hopes videos uploaded on her website - which she described to an American newpsaper as broadcasting only "real, unscripted, messy and even comical sex" - will change people's perceptions.

But the porn industry alone can't take the blame for young men growing up with perverted ideas, she said.

Ms Gallop said parents need to educate their children about sex as soon as they start exhibiting sexual behaviour, because otherwise porn will fill the gaps.

"It's never too young," Ms Gallop said. "Every parent should be talking to their children about sex as early as possible."

Tens of thousands of Australians are so addicted to porn they watch up to five hours a night, according to Perth researcher Dr Phil Watts. About 70 per cent of Australian men watch porn occasionally.

A May 2012 study in the Australian Journal of Medicine said 28 per cent of nine-to-16 year olds had seen sexual material online.

But it is comment #3 that absolutely made my day. And a lot of other people's too, apparently. I think it is my new sig.

Hardcore porn has distorted nearly every aspect of my life. Whenever I put fuel in the car, I pull the nozzle out just before the tank is full and spray petrol all over the ground. Watering the garden means inviting some mates over and five of us hose the same plant. I don't fluff my pillows anymore, I motorboat them. I don't shop at Big W anymore, to me its BBW. Somebody please help me.

Wait. Sex ISN'T all about the guy? I don't trust this radical new idea.

I got to see NIGTHWISH and KAMELOT play last night, and Alyssa from THE AGONIST sang with KAMELOT. It was epic and just what I needed to take my mind off the medical stuff going on with my mum for a night.

Wow, that would've been awesome. I'm going to see Nightwish in January, would love to see Kamelot play as well.

Yeah, it's was hella cool...oh and Elize Ryd (AMARANTHE) sang with KAMELOT too (She dueted with Alissa and Tommy on MARCH OF MEPHISTO).

It looks like they have other opening acts when they come down under to you.

You know, considering that the latest NIGTHWISH disc is a concept we actually expected more of a visual spectacle...but it was more of a straight up concert with very little if any visuals. It was still very good (Anette doesn't quite belt the tracks out like Tarja did), but I have to say that for power, visuals and crowd excitement KAMELOT's 35 minute opening set knocked it clean out of the park. BEST part of the night definitely. With Tommy on vocals now (and for the new disc SILVERTHORN) and with those guest vocalists actually showing on the album (with both Elize and Alissa guesting) I think the band is the best they've been in ten years. Just SOLID, entertainment. If they ever come down to you, I HIGHLY recommend them.

Got my car back today and you'd never know I'd had a bump.
New headlight, new wing, new bonnet and a good bumper dress.
£180 all told
I'm well chuffed.
Plus, the bloke I hit has agreed to let me pay for the new bumper for his quashqi. £465.
Which I think is quite fair too.
Not sure why I'm paying my insurance though.

My mum is stable, and recovering from her ordeal. She's still in hospital and won't be out for a few days yet, but she's out of danger and awake and moving about a bit. This makes me happy.
