Multiple-choice test tomorrow. Twenty-five, multiple-choice questions. On statistics subjects I've already covered in college/'high school'.

This is University. *facepalm*

(Incidentally, three out of four of my exams this semester are multiple-choice or have large multiple-choice components. In second year. Those options had better be VERY believable answers, 'coz this is just ridiculous...)

This movie "Dog Soldiers". It seems to be a horror movie with British soldiers. It would probably suck if I wasn't replacing the actors with Fid's squad in my head. Anyone seen this movie? Uh? UH??

Gatekeeper - Have I seen it? Have I, Loki, seen Dogsoldiers.....considering I can quote next to every line in the movie (and deleted scenes) I'm going to go with 'yes'. If I remember correctly I even made Shiara see it at the cinema :p

Did you pick all the hommages to other movies (besides the Matrix one, that one is too obvious).

I love that movie. :p

Sean Pertwee should be in the non-existent Malazan movie for sure!

I'm happy because things are starting to wrap up nicely - can't wait to be out of here! :p

Just found out I got 15,000 back in taxes. That is around a months wages worth of cool cash. I think I might buy a new laptop.

This should be messing with my groove but i actually feel Happy about it.

I've decided to quit my PhD as it was making me a very depressed person. And after struggling through it for a few years, I finally decided to say fuck it, I'm going to do something that doesn't suck the life out of me. Couldn't face the prospect of another year or more trying to finish it, when i know i'd never work in that area now.

Told the family back home, and it's like a huge weight off my shoulders. I feel really happy about it now. (will probably start to feel shit about it in a few hours/days but what the hell).

Wowser! Big decision!! Well done on making the call. I came very close to quitting mine during the writing up stage. I was hideously depressed in a way that 5 years on (and my whole life before) I've never come close to. I decided against quitting since I'd done the real leg work and just had to get over my personal demons to finish it up. My current boss wishes he did one but he's got plenty of career options without it. One of my best friends had a really shit time of his PhD. He got reeeeeeally depressed about it and eventually just stopped doing the work in his final year (without officially quitting) and got a job. Five years on, he still hasn't officially quit (he was based in Maynooth) and he occasionally says he's going to write it up. His work is out of date now and he'll have loads of trouble passing. He knows this but he can't find the courage to just admit that it's over and he's better off without it.

Seriously, well done on drawing that line in the sand. I'm sure you've sought advice from others but just make sure you've acknowledged that the 2nd/3rd year stage is reeeeeeally tough (I dunno where you're up to but random internet advice has the benefit of ignoring those facts :p). A PhD is very isolated so it's prone to depression. I think there are huge benefits to sticking it out but there are definitely mega benefits for choosing the right time to exit. It's not the be-all and end-all. My friend who quasi-quit has a great life with a new son and an interesting job and if only he'd admit that it's over, he'd be free of that phd ghost and loads happier. When I was thinking of quitting, a postdoc in our lab pointed out that I was having such trouble deciding because the type of people who start PhDs aren't quitters, they're grafters who stick things out no matter what. Acknowledging that something isn't right for that type of person is very difficult. So well done for choosing what's right for you and don't regret it!

The brakes have been changed after being thwarted by the locking lug nuts yesterday... finally found a similar set with the same diameter, thread pitch, and key. So after 5 hours of searching yesterday, I had the car up on the jacks and the tires off in less than 20 minutes. So the brakes are done, my car will stop when I want it to, relaxing with a Wilco Tango Foxtrot Ale.

THE United States is expected to announce that Osama Bin Laden is dead.

Rumours of Osama's death were reported on Twitter before the official statement.

Shortly before 12.30am Keith Urbahn, Chief of Staff, Office of Donald Rumsfeld tweeted: "So I'm told by a reputable person they have killed Osama Bin Laden. Hot damn."

Minutes later a CBS news reporter tweeted: "House Intelligence committee aide confirms that Osama Bin Laden is dead. US has the body."

I'm going home. After almost one year of traveling. Not sure that I'm happy to leave Canada behind. But I'm very happy that I will see everyone again and talk to some of my friends all night long without using skype. :)

I might be able to finish the 6 lab reports I have to write. Because:

1) This week the libraries are open 24/7
2) Notified that if we can't make it to the (unscheduled) class on Tuesday, we can get them in by email until Wed AM
3) I've got 2/6 down in about 10 hours. So that means 4 more = 40 hours. Got about 30 hours left.
