I don't know if this is making me happy. Puzzled, more than anything. Every night for the past several nights, I have dreamed about places and/or characters in The Wheel of Time. Just now, I had a dream about being at a party with a lot of people I knew from high school. At some point I left to go pick people up, then suddenly I was back with Nynaeve and Egwene. They sat down at a big table, then Lan made an announcement and proposed to her, and I gave her a big hug as she started crying.

This is especially weird because I have never once dreamed about Malazan.

My gf is awesome. Because I'm going to be flying overseas on my birthday she decided to give me my birthday present today. She's got quite a lot of money stashed away for a future deposit on a house, and so as a running joke I always tell her she should buy me extravagant things like a car whenever she asks what I would like for a gift. This morning she tells me that my present was sitting in the driveway and that I should go outside and get it. Alarmed that she'd actually taken me seriously and bought a car I went outside and instead found a small present, which turned out to be a model Aston Martin DB5 to complement the Bond 50th Anniversary Blu-Ray Boxset that she was holding behind her back.

Anyway, I thought it was very well done, and she had me going there for a second. ;)

I typed that into google but it didn't bring up anything about playing Final Fantasy 1...

Bought it from the apple store. It was like 8 bucks I think, a little pricey but I always regretted not playing this one. I never had a NES, my parents thought the Sega Master system would be just as good. It wasn't.

Err FF1 was never out in the US on the NES.

Is that the one with the shifting stats that go up when you use them and others go down when you dont?

Sounds like... FF2? FF1 is the WARRIORS OF LIGHT versus GARLAND THE MALICIOUS FLOWER COLLECTION and THE FOUR ELEMENTAL FIENDS and has Blackbelts and Ninjas and whatnot (I know very little of FF2).

I'm happy to be home again. I love visiting my brother, but two weeks without running water or working heating, or in fact a toilet inside the house, when it's almost -20°C make me happy to have my own warm bed and a bathroom back.

A dying Trekkie was given a private preview screening of the new Star Trek film when a post on Reddit caught the attention of director JJ Abrams.

A DYING Star Trek fan with only weeks to live has been given a private screening of the franchise's new film, after a Reddit post caught the attention of director JJ Abrams.

User ideeyut posted a callout for his friend Dan, saying his 41-year-old friend was suffering leukemia and desperately wanted to see Star Trek Into Darkness, or at least the nine-minute trailer that had been screened before some showings of The Hobbit.

The new film isn't due for release until May, but according to the posts, Abrams called Dan's wife and arranged the private screening for the dying fan.

Dan's wife was quoted in the post, saying, "There is nothing left to do but make him comfortable, at 41, he is jaundice & his liver is enlarged, his body has had enough, he has weeks to live."

According to the post, he was diagnosed with leukemia when he was 38, and had since been ravaged with more aggressive cancers.

The post was flooded with users posting contact details for the film studio, and offering to get in touch with contacts in Hollywood to make Dan's wish come true.

The original plea was posted on a Star Trek page of Reddit on Christmas Day, and was followed up on Saturday with this:

"He got to see it a couple of hours ago and loved it. JJ Abrams is the man. I'm going to buy an extra ticket for Dan when it comes out."


One of my best friends hung out with this guy at Action Fest this past year, made walking trips back and forth to the hotel with him, saw some screenings with him and had a few pints and chatted with him (all prior to his sudden diagnosis)...and was floored when he realized recently that it was thew same guy who made the news.

Good on JJ for going out of his way to help fulfill the man's wish.

According to my friend he was a really genuine and interesting guy to hang around.

Yuuuuuuup. I love how in law school they teach you that typos and citation fuckups are career killers but in real life almost everyone gives zero shits.

I didn't know they had Final Fantasy on the phone! I've got em all for PS though. That's pretty cool but I wonder how gameplay is for the touchscreen.


It's not bad. There is a virtual d pad that pops up on the left side of the screen when you are walking around. with a virtual speed boost button on the right. (This is very handy, makes walking across town go twice as fast.) ONce in a battle spells and commands are selected by tapping them, then tapping whjich enemy to attack, which is arguably even smoother than using a real controller. I have no complaints about the controls at this point.
