A dying Trekkie was given a private preview screening of the new Star Trek film when a post on Reddit caught the attention of director JJ Abrams.
A DYING Star Trek fan with only weeks to live has been given a private screening of the franchise's new film, after a Reddit post caught the attention of director JJ Abrams.
User ideeyut posted a callout for his friend Dan, saying his 41-year-old friend was suffering leukemia and desperately wanted to see Star Trek Into Darkness, or at least the nine-minute trailer that had been screened before some showings of The Hobbit.
The new film isn't due for release until May, but according to the posts, Abrams called Dan's wife and arranged the private screening for the dying fan.
Dan's wife was quoted in the post, saying, "There is nothing left to do but make him comfortable, at 41, he is jaundice & his liver is enlarged, his body has had enough, he has weeks to live."
According to the post, he was diagnosed with leukemia when he was 38, and had since been ravaged with more aggressive cancers.
The post was flooded with users posting contact details for the film studio, and offering to get in touch with contacts in Hollywood to make Dan's wish come true.
The original plea was posted on a Star Trek page of Reddit on Christmas Day, and was followed up on Saturday with this:
"He got to see it a couple of hours ago and loved it. JJ Abrams is the man. I'm going to buy an extra ticket for Dan when it comes out."

Had a very good weekend with friends up North. watched tons of movies, played tons of pool, ate a lot of great food, drank liters upon liters of alcohol.
came home, and my New years' gift arrived in the mail in the meanwhile. Set up a powerline network for our home internet, my room finally has a a stable net connection. and, since I don't have 2 PCs competing for wireless signal, the second PC should have a more stable signal as well.
and best of all, I still got 4 days off before i'm back in school to enjoy life.

The holidays were great this year!
Most everyone who is 'away' flew home for an extended break and seeing them for the first time in almost a year was the bee's knees.
