Dear Mr. Erikson,

Yo, you're a great writer. However, this whole bullshit that whenever one of your books begin, the reader doesn't know what the fuck is going on, yeah....that's getting old. Book 5--the start is possibly the most boring shit I've ever tried to get through. You stretch the patience of the reader through your own creative hubris.

There's a reason why this goes against all known, literary rules. This is because it's objectively poor writing. You balance it out with phenomenal writing at the end, but I can't help but wonder how good you *could* be if your books were entertaining *all* the way through.

Sincerely,

A fellow professional writer.

The Malazan facebook group is a font of hilarity.

It's even better when you find Sincerely, A fellow professional writer's actual writing :)

(Don't judge me, it's compulsive.)

One day to go for the second of the two annual "receive presents days" and there is a pile of giant gifts under the tree with my name on! I haven't had large gifts since I was a kid. My hopes are sky high! Thanks Jeebus.

Managed to get home just in time to get the kids out to see the space station/'santa' flying over.

Awesome clear night, it was much brighter than I thought it would be. My daughter said that he must be heading off to Australia to start there.. quite a reasonable assumption for a four year old!
So that's the story. And what was the real lesson? Don't leave things in the fridge.

So this was overall a great Christmas day. Spent it at home with family, and tons and tons of home cooking. Feeling pleasantly full.

Received The World of Ice and Fire from Snotface for Xmas. So I'm sitting reading it, while one of the maps from The Lands of Ice and Fire (the Known World) is at my feet. It certainly helps.

On the TV is the Boxing Day Test match (cricket) and there's a Hoegaarden beer in a stubby cooler on the coffee table next to me. Life is good. :)

Anyone who knows me knows I am not exactly a big fan of the whole Christmas schtick, but this video is just about the coolest Christmas-related thing I have ever seen:

Watch from about 1:45.

I love my new 25" 2560x1080 monitor. It automagically will divide the screen into 2,3, or 4 zones and resizes each windows to match the zone they're moved in to.

My best friend just bought the malazan books from GotM through to tBH. HELL YES! Though she'll only get to reading them in a few months, but.. oh, this makes me so happy! Also, a perfect opportunity shall arise for a reread alongside her first malazan experience :)

Just bought this. Fastest impulse buy ever.

And almost bought this and I'm not even that big of a Star Wars fan.
