You'll find this muchly speculated on these here boards.

Use your search-gut-instinct and look for 'Wu' on the boards.

At one point this was the name favored by the fanbase because SE used it (or was considering it).

There are many proponents and opponents of this... SE and ICE however, simply don't have an official name for the planet.

There is no word for it... including Wu, it's not the right word for it, heh.

A world involving so many interstices cannot be a planet. It's a plane of some kind imo

Isn't Burn his representation of Gaia?

Gaia => Earth

Burn => Wu?!?

I'm not exactly enthralled with Wu, its too short and sounds like a cheap Kung Fu character.

You've opened up a can of worms asking that lol... I like Wu. There, its out in the open. Burn has always seemed like the name of the Goddess herself, not her planet-body-thing lol. I know, completely illogical.
But as said above, SE and ICE have no name for the planet. So, you could call it Candyworld if it floats yer boat ;) but I doubt any one name will ever be used.

Looks like I survived any backlash, but Wu is too short, there is no substance. How many places in the world have such a short name? Not many, I'd expect...

Length is not always importance as long as you have width, Wu has neither.

At first I pegged Assail as like the south pole, the frontier of all frontiers, but it makes more sense to have it more or less in the centre. That way, it explains that ppl from the FE colonised it.

In terms of the name of planet Malaz, maybe they haven't got round to considering it as a planet as such. When did we name the Earth?

To be honest, this has interrested me as well but I never figured it out.
Burn is the world right? But what are the warrens? Are they worlds themselves that can be accessed? Planes of existence? Is burn just another realm? Didnt the crippled god come from another "world"? If the warrens are actually part of Burns world then maybe there's a collective name. If not, well, we dont have a name for our galaxy do we? Well except Galaxy.

Dont worry I confused myself too.

I think Burn would be best, just read TTH and it how Mappo "rides" Burn's vain when attempts to enter the lava plums. Basically the most fresh reason how ever in previous books, when Brood strikes the ground with his hammer and its noted that "Burn shudders" or something like that. However open for other ideas.
I just blew your mind.

Umm...The Milky Way?

And Burn is the Godess - not necessarily the world, although the two are, to some extent, one and the same. Hence the problem we've been having. I personally don't like "Wu", and prefer "Burn".

But the warrens are sort of parallel realms. They are, either metaphorically or literally, K'ruls veins.
The whole nature of the Malazan Universe is a bit weird. As you can expect with gods and magic etc.
However, it would appear that the CG came from another planet, although that planet may be from another realm. O.o

There was a discussion on the nature of warrens around here somewhere...

And welcome, btw!

EDIT: To both of you!

Well Milky Way is more of a name for a part of the galaxy, a big part, even though small in the whole. To be honest, I dont think the astrological names for stuff is too important since I doubt they'll be going into space any time soon.
But yeah, I remember that when Brood used his hammer on poor magnanimous Kruppe they could see the Crippled God's poison in the big erm, crater.. thing. Which was explained with that the CG is poisening burn. So it being in the ground I kinda made the assumption from that that Burn was the earth. Same as Quick Ben being pulled into the ground to speak to Burn's guardian thing.. Don't remember too well. But you're right, it is all pretty complicated, which is what makes it interresting.
Anyway so I assumed Burn was the world and the warrens something else. Well the Holds, or whatever unrefined alternative came before, that the eres'al used. But I'll be sure to look up that warrens discussion thread.

Thanks for the welcome by the way. :)

Damn this gets confusing.
Warren mechanic- Jesus this just keeps getting more complex, i tend not to think about these things, but it does seem to help clarify things when you look at them as parallel dimension, so props for your effort Silencer :)
Has SE made attempt to refine these things because a lot of topics like this one an so forth that need clarifying? But i suppose that could just be one of the tools witters use to keep us interested :) .

And cheers silencer for the welcoming, kiwi awesomeness for you right there aye bro? :p

If you like Apt or are afraid of Apt, then you must call it "Burn".

If you want to try and be forum-hardcore, then you must call it "Wu".

If you're awesome in the way that Werthead is awesome (which only Werthead is), then you must call it "The World of Malaz".

If you like D'rek(me), are afraid of D'rek, or like portmanteaus, then you must call it "Malaziworld".

And if none of the above apply, then make up yer own thing or call it "the world that most of the things occur upon".
