In MT the 2 Demon Lords who pursue the FA are armed one with a tulwar and another with a matlock.
The question is: what in Hood's name is a matlock? Could someon help me?
Thanks

IIRC, a matlock is a war hammer of sorts... strangely enough when I google/ wiki this, the search results are freaking clogged with hits about the TV series or a place called Matlock...
So yeah, if you aren't looking for much details, suffice it to say a matlock = some sort of medieval war hammer thingie.

Mattock is what you probalby mean and its either a misprint on the OP part or the Malazan book part, not sure which. Unless somebody knows something I dont know, Mattock is the tool/weapon and Matlock is a lawyer...
you can notice a difference if you look.

If it's a misprint, it's a consistent one, because "matlock" also pops up in RG. Twice on the same page, even. (RG Tor HC p500.)

"Here is light. You will say that it is not a living entity, but you miss the point that it is more, not less. Without occupying space, it fills the universe. It nourishes everything, yet itself feeds upon destruction. We claim to control it, but does it not perhaps cultivate us as a source of food? May it not be that all wood grows so that it can be set ablaze, and that men and women are born to kindle fires?"

Having scoured my weapons reference shelf, I am fairly confident in saying that a Matlock is only a tv lawyer. The item in question should indeed have been a "mattock".

Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

I can imagine SE typing up the books with Matlock on the TV in the background.
Anyone remember that Simpsons episode where Jasper steals Matlock's medicine?
'Take once a day to prevent heart seizure.' And then the ambulance appears in the background, and you see them giving Matlock shock treatment. Class.
mmmmMMMAAAAATLOCK!

I always thought it was a Mattock. Maybe SE has made an error here. A mattock is as in Zanth13s picture. A broad end on one side and a pick end on the other. For digging trenches and stuff I presume.

In the end he can just say he made up a brand new weapon, called a matlock

Or maybe one of the demons is actually armed with Matlock. With super legal aspects.

It could be a massive padlock used for securing mats/carpets, that would make a reasonable weapon

Not sure if this is a typo or he was trying to invent a new weapon.
From Reaper's Gale
Not sure if it is a huge spoiler but just to be safe since it really doesn't give away plot issues.
Just noticed on my re-read at work today.

Perhaps these demons actually fight with superannuated Andy Griffiths. I'm imagining them swinging old southern gentlemen at their enemies...that adds a nice touch of surreality to the MBotF!
