Hot Iron vs Cold Iron. Rake could've won, but for him what happened was winning.

That bloody eye, and Rake having the blood of chaos(so maybe hed just go back to it, like K'rul), and all that stuff with KG, and the fact hes so bloody clever, so may manipulate everything his way, again, and silinah perhaps leaving to do something in his name, and all the rest is just making me wonder, and cranking up my anticipation to ridiculous levels. Damn but I want to know what happens.

I do believe he would have beaten Dessem if he wanted to, Dessem was very much emotional, whereas Rake as we know tends to be COOL and collected. Plus Rake was fighting with the weight of all the dead/Dragnipur on him which would have crushed most other people.

You guys, Rake DID win. He DID beat Dassem. You seem to forget that very easily. :p It was Dassem that lost, this time around. Living or dying had nothing to do with it.

Very well put Gem.

And see, guys, Anomander Rake himself has spoken - Rake could have killed Dassem.
End of discussion.

Well put Gem, that's exactly what happened.

I do agree however, that the bloody eye being a "keepsake" is driving me nuts.

Perhaps having the eye will keep his spirit locked to flesh so he can one day reassemble, although only in Kurald Galain?

35. Has been leader of his people for 300,000 years and somehow still has their utmost love and respect, despite them being a totally emo bunch.

36. Took on all 7 Hounds of Shadow. Killed 2. The rest withdrew. The fight lasted about a second.

I just wanna share something I just thought about - the part where Dassem talks to Rake "I am not your enemy" etc. It was like he was apologizing for making Rake kill him with Draginpur. We know that Rake hated killing people with Draginpur. Anomander knew too what it would do to Dassem killing Rake. Aww...now I'm almost crying again. :p The whole fight is so...beautiful.

He would be more badass if he wasn't a Drizzt cosplayer.
Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

Its the other way around, hes older I reckon.
In fact that means

37. He inspired Drizzts costume choice
38. He stayed sulking and blanking his mum for 300,000 years, gotta admit it, thats better than any teenage huff or sulk i've ever pulled off.

What kind of Drizzt cosplayer would only carry one sword? He must be a shitty cosplayer then.

40. He drew his sword surrounded by countless possible hostiles in MoI and really didn't look worried. At all.

It's good to see all the Acolytes of Anomander stand up and speak the truth, in cold hard FACTS.

Special mention to my man Prime for the terrific CV he got started up for Rake. Lets have a quick Summary of what we have learned so far:

Anomdander Rake's resume:

1. Defied his mother (an Elder God) and led his people to safety from a vicious Civil War.
2. Beat and imprisoned Kilamandaros (another Elder God) after CLEANSING Kurald Emurlahn of Dragon usurpers and feral Eleint.
3. Beat Draconus (another Elder God) and stole his soul eating sword.
4. Led possibly the most powerful race (excluding possibly the Jaghut) and gave them a reason to live.
5. Fought and beat Osseric at least a few times.
6. Fought the Malazan Empire's best mages to a standstill.
7. Carried a sword that held countless powerful entities souls and also used that same sword to defeat several Seguleh (possibly the most skilled swordsman race on the planet).
8. Denied Godhood and the countless oppurtunites to have lordship and dominion.
9. Scared the shit out of Kallor (another badass who can take almost anybody)
10. Masterminded a plan to save the universe.
11. Gave his life (twice) to bring his people's god back to them and also...oh yeah...SAVE THE FUCKING UNIVERSE.
12. Banged Envy.
13. Fucking owned the whole Seguleh Island before getting bored and leaving.
14. Goes to costume parties as himself.
15. Is the only one Gothos has ever met who's earned his respect and Gothos thinks has made the right decisions. EVERY TIME. (Can you imagine this shit? Just being so cool that everything you do is right. The first time.
16. His girlfriend is a dragon.
17. Always fights for what he thinks is right. (Because everything he thinks, IS RIGHT.)
18. Is the most powerful being in the universe.
19. Maybe isn't even dead(too many bloody hints otherwise, we'll just have to wait and see , ah well).
20. Manages to bring a race hope after 300,000 years of depression.
21. Stabbed himself in the face and framed another guy for it. (This one is dubious, because Rake doesn't frame people, he just cuts out the middle man.)
22. Killed Death.
23. Awesome name and nicknames.
23. Excavated an entire skykeep, just for shits and giggles.
24. Has possibly the best name in the book.
25. Is apparently godly at that chess like game the andii play.
26. Uses herbal essences to keep his hair so damn GOOD.
27. Refuses to be a god.
28.
29. Encourages people to deny the number 28.
30. Had Whiskeyjacks respect.
31. Staged the best duel in all of fantasy... (As in, he set that shit up and Dassem fell for it.)
32. Obviously had the patience of a saint (for Crone to still be alive).
33. Would have won the fancy dress if they'd gotten round to the competition. (Again, dubious. Rake doesn't enter Fancy dress parties cos he got sick of making everyone else look like retarded Jack Russells).
34. Was the only man who Gothos respected, and whom Gothos thought was always right.
35. Has been leader of his people for 300,000 years and somehow still has their utmost love and respect.
36. Took on all 7 Hounds of Shadow. Killed 2. The rest withdrew. The fight lasted about a second. (I was there, they were practically pissing themselves.)
40. He drew his sword surrounded by countless possible hostiles in MoI and really didn't look worried. At all.

37, 38, and 39 - Uhh, first off: Who is Drizzts? Sounds like something you get after a night in a whore house. Second: Rake doesn't sulk, He goes around being Awesome. Third: KCCM curse? What?

There seems to be alot of hate coming out too. I expect it from Illy, because he loves Elves in a completely homosexual way, but the rest of you?

No problem brotha,

There's really not anybody in the Malaz Universe (or Multiverse for that manner) that is as bad ass as my man Rake.

RIP Anomandaris.

35: His name was "Anomander Rake"
36: He was known as "the son of darkness"
37: He ruled over a kingdom that was, despite the odds, "both tragic and fay"

...yeah, I absolutely loved Rake. When I read the first book, on the reccomendation of one of my friends, I immediately called him after Rake killed two hounds of shadow and gushed that he was "the coolest fictional character ever" which may have been an overstatement, but damn, I loved the guy. And he was just so damn good. Not just badass good (although he was certainly that) but good in the truest sense of the word...he really understood what had to be done, and did it, with no regrets, save for the pain it brought those close to him. That is the sign of a true hero, and one who will be severely missed from this series. As a long time reader, the only character whose death would have shattered me more would have been Quick Ben ::knocks on wood::

i dno if that has any connection to dragnipur... the kccm curse is something like a big bang scenrio where the universe will just come to an end one day.. not really much info about the specifics

Yeah, as my Brother Toste says, that doesn't really have anything to do with Anomander.

Kalam: Normally that kind of love would be classified as homosexual, but I think I speak for everyone when I say that we all feel that way towards Rake.
