As of now, here are the standing character appearance records:

Appeared in most books in a row: Trull, and no other has appeared in four books in a row (If you count QB's overseas line in DG then he shares the record, but I don't count that) the four for Trull are: HoC, MT, BH and RG

Longest consecutive "air-time" pages: Karsa holds the record for most time spent on him without switching scenarios: The entire first book of HoC. No other has taken as much of a single character narration session as him.

Most extended appearance (as in earliest to latest): Whiskeyjack holds that record for appearing in the very prologue, on the 2nd or 3rd page of GotM, as well as the 18th last page of TtH. A very VERY close second is Shadowthrone and Cotillion for appearing early in the first chapter of GotM, as well as on the 10th last page of TtH. If someone cares to actually do a calculation and prove me wrong (that ST and Cot come first) you may, because I'm not entirely certain. Other very close candidates are Anomander Rake (late 2nd chapter GotM and at the transference of the gate in TtH), Bellurdan (2nd chapter GotM, almost the last scene in TtH), and Crokus (book 2 GotM, near last scene in TtH).

Appeared in most books: Shadowthrone and Cotillion share that record. Only they have appeared in as much as 6 mainstream series books. GotM, DG, HoC, BH, RG and TtH.

So our character appearance records are Trull, Karsa, Whiskeyjack, Shadowthrone and Cotillion.

If you count Whiskeyjack's flashback in MoI, describing the birth of the Bridgeburners, then Fiddler has appeared in six - all except MT and TtH. Otherwise, no one has been in six. Rake may have been mentioned in six or more, though.

The CG?
Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

Are we including the Cam books in this count? If so, ST and Cot get another point.

I still think the CG gets at the very least mentioned in every single SE book, although I don't think he's talked about in Night of Knives.

If you can find a mention in GotM or DhG, I shall be very impressed. And he cetainly doesn't appear in them.

Kruppe's reading of Gothos' Folly about the Chaining in GOTM. I think you're right about DG though.

From somewhere in DG, it's from the T'lan Imass meeting Kulp & co.

Ooh yeah... it is when a team of T'lan Imass (including Monok Ochem et al I think) land on the Silanda and confront Kulp, Felisin, Heboric etc. IIRC they are hunting the Unbound and eventually run into Trull and Onrack and the Liosan.

Later Kulp even says this to the Imass (the shut up is directed at felisin)

Quote

'Shut up, girl,' Kulp growled, pushing past to descend to the main deck. 'We're not Servants of the Chained One,' he said. 'Hood's breath, what is the Chained One? Never mind, I don't even want to know. We're on this ship by accident, not design—'

OOOOH... good find GG. I hadn't realized there was such an obscure CH reference in DG. Rep to you!

Sorry bout the double post, but... found this quote in GoTM too...

Yep, those "Hood's Breath", "Hood's Balls", "Beru Fend", "Oponn's Pull" etc curses will drive up the record.

But honestly, the record is Shadowthrone I think. He's in.

Thats 7 books! He's the winner.
I won't mention if he is in RotCG as some people have not read that yet.

I thought it was the CG who showed up and inspired/forced that knuckled guy (Gaz? Raz?) in Toll the Hounds to start killing instead of just fighting people... Am I mistaken there???

That was Hood influencing Gaz - you had the buzzing noise of flies for the first appearance, then there was the bit at the end.

Without doubt Illy :D

Theyis - it was Hood who was getting Gaz to kill people - he needed their souls, or something, to manifest physically whenThordy killed Gaz. He was a bit like Karsa, collecting the souls of the ones he killed.

Well I wasn't counting books outside SE's main series.

But you're right. I don't know why; I totally forgot he was in RG. I just assumed "Letheras... no shadowthrone", but that's not true because he met Menandore and Hood; as well, he and Cotillion briefed QB Trull and Onrack on their mission.

Since ST and Cotillion both appeared in 6 mainstream books, I'll edit my post.
