Not sure that Rake will take over Hoods realm.

I think it will disperse. Become vacant and as Hood says " the gods will have to look after their own "

I have a crazy theory....

Just before Chaur looses conciousnss. After his smack on the head. It seemed to me that new paths of thought were made, not a healing but a different path.

I think that Chaur will be a normal, or not a simplton. OR....... That Heboric has been unable to assume contrle of Chaurs body after the whole Jade Giant thing because he is a simpleton. BUT now his brain paths are all mended he can, SO when he comes out of the Azath it will in fact be Herboric.

"I think i was a bad person before. Before this time. I do not try to be good now but i am not bad. Perhaps if i try harder i may get a better hand dealt next time? But surely that makes it pointless? Perhaps i am good. Just good at being pointless. But that would make me bad. Bad at having a point. Ah…. I see now. I was nothing before, I am nothing now. I am bad purely because im pointless. "

I don't know about the Heboric possessing Chaur thing any more. It was a good idea when we had no post-BH information either for or against it. But we've just gotten through a book with Chaur in it, that contained absolutely no hint that Chaur was possessed by Heboric.

Especially when you consider there were at least two passages detailing Chaur's thought processes, where you would have expected any possible possession by another person to have come up.

When they were talking about Chaur's brain changing as he neared death, I couldn't help but think of Detritus in the Pork Futures warehouse.

wait, when did he say this? I remember something along those lines awhile back and just assumed it was Brys, since he's actually back in physical form. Though I'm not sure how "spectacular" Brys is, he's def badass.

Considering I imagine everyone else along with me thought he was dead that's pretty spectacular. Plus it says "one more" resurrection. It could still be Toc seeing as how he is at least delivering messages to Gods and whatnot. Perhaps it was Itkovian going from semi-dead shield-anvil to the Redeemer. Or more likely, it is someone unmentioned here.
Trouble arrives when the opponents to such a system institute its extreme opposite, where individualism becomes godlike and sacrosanct, and no greater service to any other ideal (including community) is possible. In such a system rapacious greed thrives behind the guise of freedom, and the worst aspects of human nature come to the fore....

Hmm, well i thought Brys would be back since in MT they took his finger. anyway, i was going for spectacular more in the sense of someone who played a much larger role than Brys had up to that point, but it's all semantics. as far as who it could be, lots of names could and will come up, which is why i'm wondering when was the last time SE made that comment. After which book?

Can't answer you there. Probably in the S.E. interviews on the homepage.

Has anyone raised the question/theory whether the Chained God could really be the broken and ravaged Father Light dragged down from the sky by powerfull mages with help from his rivals? :o

It's been brought up before. The only thing that seems to ring hollow in it is that "Light" already existed in the realm before the CG came down...and it seems to be emphatic that the CG was an "alien".

Pedantic bear time.

The Tiste races and there warrens are also described as alien thoughout the series making FL a perfect candidate.

Personally i dont think so but its not completely implausible

back to crazy theories....

Fisher = Grizan Farl

I have no evidence or logic for this unless you call wishful thinking logic. Someone has to be ole Grizan, right? Right? Eh? Eh? *Nudge nudge, wink wink

Not necessarily. Steve told me Grizzin Farl will probably not make an appearance in the rest if the series, but might make a showing in the Rake trilogy.

Then again, considering all the other times he's said things won't happen...
Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

The BBQ. Well, after I'd had some lunch. A guy has to consider his priorities, you know.

haha nice. So did SE himself call it the "rake trilogy" or is it more like a Tiste trilogy? Is Rake trilogy just the unofficial board term for it?

'A trilogy of books about Rake's early life', so it's all Rake all the time, baby! Although most likely from other POVs, like Osserc, T'riss, Brood, etc.

awesome! that clears it up some. I do remember someone saying SE didn't think he could write from the perspective of a character as powerful/awe-inspiring as Rake. I'd love to get more on Spinnock, maybe he'd be a POV in such a trilogy. Osserc would be sweet. really all the names you listed would be haha.
