Only as far as it is useful to win an argument against Apt. Once the argument is won, you're right back at the bottom of the food -and respect chain.

Well that happiness was short lived...

Anybody watched the iZombie show on Netflix? I more or less hate anything zombie related now a days but I've watched 3 episodes and it's really good so far. The "Eat brain, gain new personality quick" every episode is a bit gimmicky but I love the main character. As an episodic crime comedy show it works pretty well.

I am wondering where the hell the show is going because it seems like it could become pretty crazy if somebody doesn't stop "Patient zero".

Is it just a Netflix-branded show over there? Cuz it's a network show here. Anyway yah I've seen Season 1 and it's pretty awesome. I'm a Rob Thomas loyalist anyway, but was pleasantly surprised by how well this show holds together given the very gimmicky premise. I think you'll be satisfied with where it goes -- RT does not pull his punches. I'm really hoping that between Netflix and Hulu I can manage to marathon S2 when it goes up and finally watch week to week.
They came with white hands and left with red hands.

Anyone watching Outcast on Cinemax? HBO aired the first episode and I rather enjoyed it. I don't have Cinemax, so I haven't watched any other episodes. Anyways, it's based on the comic by Robert Kirkman (Walking Dead).

Finally gave up on my decision to not watch Game of Thrones until the book series is done. Let's be honest the polar icecaps will melt before that series is done. Also avoiding GOT spoilers on the internet is like navigating a minefield.

To my surprise, the series is actually every bit as good as the hype suggested. I had trouble getting into the first episodes, they were far too familiar, but once it got going it's a very well made show. The attention to detail, casting and production values are impressive.

Also the fact that it's in a TV-format means that more tedious chapters, like everything related to Sansa, becomes a breeze. It's also helped me better visualize certain aspects of the books I never thought about. Like palm trees in the capital or the absurdity of the northern wall.

Dangling modifier. The board is respected, and you are a citizen of it.

The Last Kingdom is on Netflix now. I ll check it out next after Marco Polo

Its funny, I watched Marco Polo S1 and more or less liked it, yet still can't bring myself to bother watching S2.

I guess we'll call that Leftovers/Ray Donovan syndrome.

The last couple of shows I have blasted through were Marcella and Spotless, both available on Netflix in Canada. Both based in Britain, although the characters from Spotless are French, and I think it is a French show.

Both pretty good.

Watched Ep 1 of Last Kingdom. Vikings is much better....

Is this supposed to be same people? I'm hearing lots of names from V but they don't match up to what V chars show. Ex: Eckbert. He's cunning and a true king on V and here he just sits on a log and is a puppet king of nothing.

Ed: watching Ep 2. The king and the arrows plus a branch in an asshole are quite amusing!

The youngish blonde bad viking guy is Ubba, so with relation to VIKINGS he is Ragnar's second youngest son (Ivar is the youngest I think) as an adult...and remember that in VIKINGS lore Alfred is actualy the illegitimate son of Aethelstan. So considering how old Alfred is in this, that should give you a decent idea of the timeline and how they connect. Egcbert in this is not the same guy...just same name. Basically this is what happened a decade or so after Ragnar has died and his sons are now conquering.

The show is only alright, but the books are fantastic!

Couple of questions: 1) Is there a television show you don't watch? AND 2) How do you find the time for all of that television watching.

Right, so expanding on my earlier post.

I probably need some distance to think about it but I think the TV-adaption of Song of Ice and Fire is perhaps one of the greatest works of fiction I have ever experienced. I have pretty much done nothing but binge watching GOT the past week and am now about to begin season 5. I am absolutely enraptured by this show.

The show draws on the strength of Martin's writing but creates something far more entertaining because everything is condensed. Long, tedious chapters of the books are reduced to short segments in episodes that seem capable of taking the viewer everywhere, never compromising, always going for the heart. Even better is the shows willingness to spend seasons slowly building up characters only to sacrifice them in an instant for the benefit of the episode. It's the kind of show that suggests to me that maybe the Malazan Book of the Fallen could be adapted to TV.

One thing that I do wonder about is how my perception of the characters have changed. It might be because the show (obviously) chooses talented, charismatic or beautiful actors for the roles, instead of the ugly creatures that populate the books, but I find myself liking every single character. I remember hating the Lannisters in the books and now I have nothing but admiration for the kind of people they are. Hell I've come to appreciate Sansa Stark of all people.

What really sells the show for me though is the settings and the quality. Even when I recognize it has to be a stage and CGI I am watching, the show uses every trick in the book to trick me into believing I am really there. I just watched the scene where

Season 4 spoilers:
Spoiler

And I was amazed at how expensive the whole thing looks. This show looks like it has the budget of a Michael Bay movie and it spent it all on costumes and armor and awesome fight scenes. It's fucking gorgeous.

I am now past the events I read in the books and looking forward to seeing what kind of craziness happens next.

I'm actually jealous. I wish I had that much time to watch all the programs I wanted. <sigh> Alas, maybe when I retire. Probably still won't watch EVERY show though. lol.

Oh man, I am approaching the end of season 5 of Game of Thrones and that whole church business sure is turning into a clusterfuck. It's like watching a car crash into a daycare center in slow motion.

Stranger Things - anyone else watching this? It's brilliant so far. 8 ep Netflix series.

It's a throw back to the great films of the 80s generation. Definitely a tribute to them.

Group of 4 kids get wrapped up in something and shit goes down, I won't spoil anything - don't watch the trailer and go in fresh, you'll enjoy it more.

I'm 4 eps in and wishing I started it earlier so i could binge the full 8.

I definitely plan to binge it soon. I liked about 2/3 of Super 8 and this looks to be in the same vein, w/ Netflix's openness to imagination hopefully leading to less adherence to the Spielberg formula. No daddy issues, por favor. And Winona Forever.
