In crazy "I didn't know that!" news....

Was anyone else aware that Paul McGann was originally cast as Richard Sharpe in the SHARPE series from the 90's? He shot like the whole first episode, but got badly injured in a soccer match and was only replaced by Sean Bean at that point.

I love Bean as Sharpe, but the HUGE, RABID Paul McGann fan in me really wishes we could have seen the McGann Sharpe series.

Watched half of season 3 of sons of anarchy. Good and obviosuly it wasnt going to focus on the previous seasons build up between jacks and Clay given the end of S2 but the current plot feels a bit off. Ive spoiled myself for all the big ones by accident while my dad was watching it but its still enjoyable.

@QT: You ever watch the Episode 11 documentary? It's just the talking head interviews with the real guys, like they bookend the other episodes with, but in a full doc form (and mostly not recycled from the episodes, so lots of original content). Makes a fantastic epilogue to the show.

@Primateus: I watched this over the last week and fully agree. It's a total tonal improvement over Weeds (I'm one of those people who abandoned that halfway through), as it gets the balance between drama and comedy a lot closer to ideal. And it has a really engaging cast.

Watching Spartacus: Vengeance (season two ...or three or whatever). Beneath all the poor acting, pompous dialogue and over-vulgar visual style (which I love), there's a pretty decent series. They do a really good job of creating intrigue in every group and making us always guessing what'll happen.
Legalise drugs! And murder!

Spartacus: Vengeance is the shittiest of all the seasons. I actually fast forwarded through a lot of it. It gets a lot better with War of the Damned. The first season is still the best, imo. They all have the pompous dialog. You will here "gratitude" a lot. That and "Jupiter's Cock".

Started watching Babylon 5 - better late than never!
I actually liked the first episode. Anxious to see the rest.
It is not the critic who counts; not the man who points out how the strong man stumbles, or where the doer of deeds could have done them better. The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena, whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood, who strives valiantly; who errs and comes short again and again; because there is not effort without error and shortcomings; but who does actually strive to do the deed; who knows the great enthusiasm, the great devotion, who spends himself in a worthy cause, who at the best knows in the end the triumph of high achievement and who at the worst, if he fails, at least he fails while daring greatly. So that his place shall never be with those cold and timid souls who know neither victory nor defeat.

Aight, slight update after seeing most of season 1...

Babylon 5 is pretty much what I hoped Deep Space 9 to be. It's the Mass Effect 2 to Star Trek's Mass Effect 1. The seedy underbelly of space opera; the harsh, brutal and uncompromising step-brother.
So yeah, you've got, so far, Sinclair that's like a fusion of Picard and Sisko, Garibaldi is a Riker with more balls and less career, G'kar is a less badass more slimy Garak, and Ivanova reminds me of Janeway. Then there's the alien races, which pretty much seem to me like minbari = vulcan+romulan, centauri = imperialistic ferengi, narn = bajorans and cardassians mix magnifique, and vorlons which are... well, sort of like if you would make Q serious.

Can't wait to gobble up the rest of the series ;)

I actually envy you watching S2, 3 and 4 for the first time.

it has its weak points, but when it's 'on', which is most of the time, oh, it is a thing of sf tv beauty.

It's an excellent show. Iirc, nobody on cast or crew knew who the killer was going to be until they were filming the last ep. The main reveal scene was done with just those actors. Everyone else was brought in for their "really? It was " scene separately. Only after shooting all of those did they finish filming the rest of the episode.

As good as the show is though, it made me re-assess my opinion of Tennant's Bestest Doctor Ever status. His world weary detective is very reminiscent of his weary Doctor.

Finally getting caught back up with GAME OF THRONES. Nothing like watching somebody with no prior knowledge of the series (ie, Mrs McLovin) watch the Baelor ep. Can't wait to see how she handles the Red Wedding...

Just finished season 4 of Sons of Anarchy. Enjoyable though the final episode was bit of a underwhelming twist. Annoyingly me and the gf signed up for netflix yesterday (for Breaking Bad) and they have all the series uptill season 4. Ill now have to buy series 5. grrr
