Aight, slight update after seeing most of season 1...
Babylon 5 is pretty much what I hoped Deep Space 9 to be. It's the Mass Effect 2 to Star Trek's Mass Effect 1. The seedy underbelly of space opera; the harsh, brutal and uncompromising step-brother.
So yeah, you've got, so far, Sinclair that's like a fusion of Picard and Sisko, Garibaldi is a Riker with more balls and less career, G'kar is a less badass more slimy Garak, and Ivanova reminds me of Janeway. Then there's the alien races, which pretty much seem to me like minbari = vulcan+romulan, centauri = imperialistic ferengi, narn = bajorans and cardassians mix magnifique, and vorlons which are... well, sort of like if you would make Q serious.
