Okay, this may have slipped by people's notice as we have no ded-thread on it....but for those who watch and enjoy Neil Cross' BBC series LUTHER...with the amazing Idris Elba in it...

I give you, the official announcement of Series 3:

I am SERIOUSLY amped. This is easily one of the very best, if not THE best British crime thriller shows. The first two series are absolutely stellar. If you haven't watched them, they come with my highest recommendation!

For those who DO watch the show...How excited are you for Series 3?! Plus the talk from Cross is that Series 3 will lead directly into a big screen LUTHER movie.

Neil Cross' BBC series LUTHER

Haven't heard of it. I might check it out if its good and takes a new and smart approach to the usual crime show.. I really hate the crime thriller or drama/ All the CSI BS/ anything to do with murder case solving shows. I feel like anyone can come up with an episode in about 5 min and its always the same shit. The last show that I enjoyed like that was Life on Mars.

I'm about to watch the Firefly 10th Anniversary Reunion. Been waiting for it for a while, I'm excited.
No Touchy.

Luther is awesome because it provides him with outsized adversaries. It's not meant to be realistic, it's supposed to be moody and heightened in an almost comic-booky way. It veers as far as it can towards that level without evoking anything supernatural. Almost like the less fantastic members of Batman's Rogue's Gallery IMO.

A solid point. A lot of the time it's about watching Luther deal with stuff that is so far out of his league that it would put ordinary people in a state of perma-shock. It's also got other aspects that make it a bit different, the main part of which is how volatile Luther himself is, or how dirty he can be when trying to get to the bottom of something. He's ruthless. Elba sells the role, but the cast surrounding him is just as good.

The best thing is that it doesn't require a lot of your viewing time. the first Series is 6 eps and the second series is 4. But each one is well executed.

Oh yah, haha, I didn't describe Luther (the character) at all. Oops!

Just FYI, as well as the itunes versions of LUTHER being on the cheap right now, the DVD's versions on Amazon (which were around $40 each a few weeks back when I ordered them as gifts) are now both on for $22...which is a steal for British import content.

Can't remember the last time I enjoyed an episode of How I Met Your Mother.
It's getting old. I want to keep watching to see what happens, but don't know if I can handle it.
I've always been crazy but its kept me from going insane.

I agree. What the fuck was up with that "Marshall-channeling-his-inner-black-woman" episode? So fucking dumb.

Funny. I'm watching the first season now (getting into the show due to a friend telling me it's awesome). Ted is an unrepentant and unlikable douche. Nothing he does is anything like what I'd want in my friends. The rest of them are good people though.
I survived the Permian and all I got was this t-shirt.

Testify!

I would've dumped this years ago if it weren't for the Mrs.
OK, I think I got it, but just in case, can you say the whole thing over again? I wasn't really listening.

Funny. I'm watching the first season now (getting into the show due to a friend telling me it's awesome). Ted is an unrepentant and unlikable douche. Nothing he does is anything like what I'd want in my friends. The rest of them are good people though.

Ted is pretty terrible...beyond which he's telling all this to his kids...a lot of which is about the sex he had, the drugs they smoked, and how they were generally layabouts who cared more about being cool than living life.

It's funny and clever for about 3 seasons....after which it just gets tedious and begins to be ridiculous. At this point with him not having met the mother (really) at what 8 seasons in I'm just annoyed. They need us to be emotionally invested in whoever she is...on top of which he spends like 4 seasons PINING over Robin....who becomes Aunt Robin down the line...so you tell you kids how head over heels, batshit crazy in love you were with their aunt....and then try to tell them their mother trumps her? I just don't buy it.

I still watch, but now it's out of necessity to see how it ends up. Even Barney no longer really brings the laughs.

How are you doing with the One Piece? Where did you leave off to go watch Luther, Downton Abbey, Skyfall and read all them books.

I finished the Alabasta Arc last episode....which I THINK was the end of S4? I'm goign to get back to it, but that was a natural stopping point to do some other things. Hopefully I'll get a chance to get back to it over the holidays.

I've not forgotten about it though, no worries.

Yeah, you're roughly at the 130 mark. Only 450ish more to go and it only gets better. You've nicely picked the break and it's definitely worth it to go out and do other things in between One Piece boluses.

I'm really afraid to catch up...since after that I'll probably be obsessively reading the manga. But yeah, I'm super excited to see where it goes.

Had a couple hours of no wife, no kids, so streamed the first episode of 1979's BUCK ROGERS IN THE 25TH CENTURY. Man, that takes me back. So cheesy though - and back then we thought it was the shit! LOL

I'm a few weeks late to the talk of Luther, but I recently heard the news of not only a possible movie but that Neil Cross plans to write and hopefully sell a series based on Alice... done right, that could be awesome.

Recently I have been sad that The Thick of It has gone now to play on the big television set in the sky. No more Malcolm Tucker on our screens. But while it lasted it was fucking awesome and anyone not aware of said show should get their arses into gear and watch it now. Especially if you like a bit of dark political comedy (spiced by some truly spectacular swearing. Seriously, it may seem like a bad thing for this to be one of the main selling points but it elevates it to an art form).
I can't carry it for you, but I can carry you.

Streamed 1978's BATTLESTAR GALACTICA 3-part pilot, SAGA OF A STAR WORLD. Ah, memories...

Done with the 4th season now.

Marshall and Barney are the heart and soul of the show. I say Marshall's the heart because he's the only truly moral person in the group. The rest manipulate and scheme to get what they want while infrequently realizing that what they want isn't what's good for them. Lily is a good person only because she's with Marshall. Barney's the soul because he's the one moving from being this rigidly set-in-his-ways person to a truly better person and his lust for adventure and awesomeness is exactly what people should be driving towards. There were a couple moments when the writers lost track of that and made him into a simple PUA creep - which is exactly what Barney's not. He'll lie, he'll scheme, but he's making up stories about himself and what he does - not putting down the woman or making her feel like crap. They leave his apartment feeling angry, not with broken self-confidence or with Stockholm Syndrome.

Ted is such a douche. I'm aware that Josh Radnor has to do what the writers say, but everything about the character screams insufferable, arrogant douche. Radnor has to be happy with the salary and the publicity, but not so happy with the unrepentant douchiness of Ted.
