IT: WELCOME TO DERRY up to ep 5 now (which is current), and they've just dropped a really cool world building facet that we didn't know before.

The Indigenous who first encountered It/Pennywise/TheDeadlights, found out that the vessel/prison it crashed on earth in had power...so they broke pieces off after they found his cave and used a bunch of shards to spread and bury those shards (called the pillars) all around the area he was in...contained him...that area would one day after that become the town of Derry. So now we know why Pennywise only haunts and hunts in Derry...he can't go outside of it.


EDIT: Oh shit.....12 pillars to hold Pennywise in place, 12 guardians of the beam that secure the Dark Tower, being the 13th.

My one complaint when they started the Bosch: Legacy sequel series... they changed the theme tune.

Honestly, I really like that they pay attention to details like the paperwork and proper evidence gathering procedures. I'm an ex-police officer and I currently work in the criminal law arena so I know how important all that stuff is for actual police work and getting it through the justice system. I really enjoy that Bosch is a genuinely competent and caring officer, if a little rogue on occasions.

Man, Lance Reddick was a phenomenal talent. Watching Bosch mashed me miss him. Everything I've ever seen him in, he's just outstanding. He was also the voice of Sylens in the Horizon video game series, which I recently finished so man I'm feeling the Reddick love right now haha

IT: WELCOME TO DERRY, you can tell that this is the first ep they did after the shenanigans that caused BTS trouble was done...Apparently Pennywise was never supposed to feature directly in the show as Bill Skarsgaard had scheduling conflicts, so they shot the first bunch of eps with a sort of standin.

Madeline Stowe plays Ms. Kersh [who you may recall from the IT movie as the old woman who lives in Bev's old home and is essentially PW in disguise but has photos of Bob Gray on her wall as her father], who is the real life daughter of the original Bob Gray Pennywise the Clown who the cosmic entity/dealights ate and assumed his identity after to eat the kids becoming Pennywise forever more...and the original plan for the show was going to be that Ingrid (Stowe) Kersh was hellbent on seeing her father again after he was "taken" from her in 1908 (Stowe is 67, but looks like she drank from a magic fountain), and she thinks Pennyise is him, but with a dark side that comes out like a werewolf that she can fix....so she's been terrorizing the kids of the town to "bring him out" so she can see her father again...

So this episode brings that fact into the open instead of it being a finale moment, becuase of course the Writers Strike pushed production of the show long enough that Bill Skarsgaard became available again so the show was rewritten to include Pennywise directly, so Ms. Kersh had to be finagled into a sort of "bring the children to him" character like Henry Bowers in the original films...and it works...but the early episodes feel a little more off canter as a result of the retooling...so this episode is clearly where everything starts firing on all cylinders again (not saying I disliked the earlier eps, I really loved them, but this one is on another level).

Richie and Marge were great here, and I'm starting to think Richie is going to bite it and Marge is Richie Tozier's mom Maggie in the IT movies and name her son after him. But time will tell. Speaking of Marge, she's had a 180 from the last few weeks and becomes VERY likeable here.

The Black Spot is about to kick off next week. If I had two nickels for every time weird supernatural shit happed in a Juke Joint this year, I'd have two nickels but it's weird that it happened twice.

I do like the subtle nods that Pennywise affects the adult population and fuels whatever hatred or negativity is there. Like will's dad smacking him is super out of character, but of course it is....this is Derry and he just had a direct confrontation with Pennywise in the sewers.

The only people with plot armor that we know of are Will (Mike's father), Leeroy, and of course ya boy Dick Halloran (since he has a date with becoming the cook in the Overlook Hotel and meeting a young boy with the Shining).

LOVED it.

Very much a "calm before the storm" episode.

2 to go, one of my fave shows this whole year.

Yeah, it says "Final season" at timestamp 1:45... though I'd suppose that doesn't preclude a series of movies. (With theatrical release?)

Or more spinoffs... apparently one of the Bosch spinoffs is basically just a continuation of the first series.

So I got a 3 months for 99p per month black Friday deal on the MGM streaming service, as built into prime video. I started watching Black Sails tonight which is turning out to be a rollicking pirate adventure show (with lots of added nudity).

Did anyone else use this service? Any good shows? I assume there will be lots of movies on it.

I have only been brought to unexpected and aggressive tears a few times in my life...like I cry at lots of emotional media, but I can feel it coming and I know I'm going to cry...this is different.

IT: WELCOME TO DERRY episode 8, THE BLACK SPOT made me cry out of nowhere, and not just cry but sob...

This show was already angling for my favourite TV show of the year, but this episode clinches it. If you know enough about King, and IT and The Black Spot, you'll understand that this was gruesome, brutal, terrifying, hard as hell to watch just from the content...but buried in there is one event that I was NOT expecting, that just yanked the tears from me.

Goddamit, such a well written episode of TV. I won't spoil what it was that did this, but anyone not watching this show should watch it.

BLACK SAILS is great fun. It dips at times but never flatlines.

Yes MGM+ is the one. Not had much chance to explore it and tbh if I get one really good show (ie Black Sails) for the price I've paid it's worth it. FWIW I'm not against nudity etc per se (and let's be honest we all like to see pirate boobs every now and then) but it did seem a little extraneous like the early seasons of GoT where he's having a discussion while two women are getting on in the background. Just seems a bit pointless.
