I took up a friends suggestion and started watching Wayward Pines. Any of you guys watched it? Does it get better?

I just started watching episode 4 and I think I hate this show. It's an interesting premise. Secret Service Agent wakes up in a weird "pod people" like city, where everybody acts normal while something is clearly very wrong. As you continue to watch weird shit unfolds and lots of ominous things become clear.

The only problem is that it's written "wrong". I don't know how else to put it. The story is off. It has the traits of a well produced suspense/sci-fi show but the pacing is strange. The actors stumble around acting out a story that has no logic. The dialogue that is meant to be mysterious and suspenseful is frustrating and annoying. The mystery is so downplayed that it's uninteresting. The revelations or "bread crumbs" they drop in every episode are predictable and lack cleverness. There's clearly something big going on but they're failing to make me give a shit.

I watched the whole first season and didn't even consider watching the second season. And I'm a fan of Matt Dillon. From me, that should tell you a lot. But yeah, stick with it if you think it's compelling.

American Ripper onHistory chan is turning into a interesting show. Trying to link H.H Holmes as Jack in London and lots of things are matching up on ep 2.

That seems really implausible on the face of it though.

While the Ripper’s life is not well known, Holmes life very much is. And I don't know that he ever disappeared long enough to be in London between the dates when the killings occurred. Also, their MO’s were VERY different. Holmes was methodical, meticulous, and basically didn’t do anything unless he had it planned out to the nines beforehand…meanwhile the Ripper was a spree killer, who while he didn’t get caught…only didn’t get caught because no one was really looking into dead Whitechapel prostitutes all that deeply…and by the time they were, he’d stopped.

Holmes (Mudgett) was a con man who earned his money through that activity…but was more often than not in heavy debt to those around him. In fact, the only reason he owned the “castle” he built was because he’d killed the prior proprietors and no one ever found out. But yeah, that he could have gathered up the funds needed to cross the Atlantic (twice), never mind the time consumption of such an endeavour, is less than believable if you knew who Mudgett was.

Solid reading about Holmes: THE DEVIL IN THE WHITE CITY by Erik Larson.

I heard they found a blurry photo of Jack the Ripper just about to murder Amelia Earhart, but unfortunately nobody's facing the camera.
They came with white hands and left with red hands.

Have watched the show QT?

I'm sure it will fall apart on the theory toward end but ep 2 last night had many hmmm possible moments. Actually some really solid moments timeline wise and the assumption that Jack was also a Dr harvesting organs for quick $ like Holmes. You should try it if you haven't seen it.

I have not. I did not even know it existed...but the Mudgett descendant is apparently being kind of debunked as looking for his 15 and a pay check...so I dunno if I could wAtch with a discerning eye is all.

Started watching GLOW last night, the new Netflix show from the OITNB team...which is fictional account of the making of the same-titled 80's women's wrestling entertainment show.

And it was so funny, and so charming, that I binged all the way to episode 7 in one night.

GREAT show!

Everyone should check it out.

I watched the 5th episode and called it quits. It did the dumbest mid season reveal I think I have ever seen.

I'll put this in a spoiler in case anyone is actually interested in "The mystery" but nobody should watch Wayward Pines:

I tend to avoid Indiewire because i like their articles and despise their ads that force vids onto your screen, but this is a fun article re 'The 20 Best SF shows of the 21st century'....

http://www.indiewire...ion-1201855622/

Notables to me were

- BETTER OFF TED, which i did not watch and had no idea was even remotely sf;

- FIREFLY in the top 5, because of course it is and i think it should be way way lower;

- Brazilian show 3%, which i look fwd to watching one of these days on Netflix;

- FRINGE being rightfully recognised;

- the X-FILES reboot being utterly ignored;

- COLONY.... seriously??? ...Colony gets in there but THE OA is ignored?

- I think THE EXPANSE should have bumped BLACK MIRROR for #1.

It gets even dumber. I forget the specifics because it's been awhile since I watched it, but yeah, it's really bad. I can't believe I stayed with it for the whole season 1 run. Could be because it ran during the summer when not much else is on. I also was probably hopeful it would improve.

I finally got to watch S2 of THE EXPANSE.

Meh.

I've fallen out of love with the series about where I fell out of love with the books.

Will watch S3, but was not overly impressed with S2.

Guys, if I'm getting annoying with these trailers/vids, please let me know, kay? But SDCC is going on right now so these things will be released until Sunday. I sorta equate it with the E3 thread we have where a lot of the gaming trailers/vids are posted there. Maybe we should create a "San Diego Comic Con" thread? dunno really. I'll let the seasoned professionals have at it.

Any way:

By all means, make a dedicated thread. Just know that from there on and ever after, people will secretly blame you if you forget to make one subsequent years!

What is this Krypton show? Surely not a show set on the planet Krypton, right? That would be terrible. It's an alien society, if they start cramming "American sci-fi drama" bullshit into Kryptonian culture... well, I wouldn't be surprised, just sad and disgusted.

I don't wanna make a thread for SDCC. I'm too bashful.

Yeah, I don't know about the Krypton show my own self. It's on SyFy, which has a shitty record for original programming.

Agreed! If done right with little to none similarities to Earth culture, it could be very interesting. But I think we all know that it most likely won't be like that.
Screw you all, and have a nice day!

I finally started Westworld, watched the first episode, and frankly thought it kinda sucked. At least in the overworld, 99% of the dialogue was experts explaining to other experts what would happen if they did various things, stuff they all already know. It was one of the worst examples of blatant explaining-for-the-audience I've seen in a "prestige" show.

I'll still watch the rest, I guess, hoping it improves.

I was indeed amazed that people kept explaining to each other, longtime employees of the same company, that "the hosts can't hurt you by design" or the very basics of what the company sells.
They came with white hands and left with red hands.

KRYPTON looks awful. Like they had a bunch of leftover scripts and props from CAPRICA and nothing better to do that week.
WESTWORLD is pretty great once you get past the excessive exposition at the startup.

Oh Snap! Shark Week begins tomorrow on Discovery Channel and it looks like it kicks off with Michael Phelps racing a shark. Boy, does that sound dumb and hokey. Almost as bad as that time when they had that show where a guy was to be swallowed whole by an anaconda. But you guys will probably watch it right? Instead of GOT? Probably.
