So I watched at least most of the first episode of Outlander with the gf, coined by some as "the new game of thrones". The gf suggested watching it.

After half an hour she couldn't take it anymore. I pushed onwards at least until the premise is realized somehow. Then I gave up as well. MAN, this was fucking terrible. Absolutely fucking terrible. So absurdly shitty. It was worse than watching Twilight. If they cut out the narrator/main character's thoughts throughout the entire run like someone was reading a "dear diary" entry, maybe this could have some punch to it. But that shit is unbearable.
It is not the critic who counts; not the man who points out how the strong man stumbles, or where the doer of deeds could have done them better. Maybe your gf is not of the generation that it seeks to connect to.

I agree with BK, ep 2 was MUCH better, and ep 3 sounds like it was better too. I think it's great after stumbling a bit early in Ep 1, but then I'm not going in expecting shakespeare.

Claire still narrates, but it's not nearly as much. Her inner monologue is still one that is easily guessable (and I agree it's not needed) though.

I want to know if Collum Mackenzie's bow legs are CGI or not. They are well done, even if they aren't.

You also can't help but root for Jaime. He's about as likeable a hero as you could get on a TV show like this.

Started watching Season 1 of CASTLE, and both the wife and I are totally head over heels for the show. Funny and charming.

Started into Series 2 of UTOPIA (about halfway through) and it is as fucked, if not more fucked than the first series. The flashback sequences to Carvele and Milner ect. in the 1970's largely make me feel sick to my stomach (which I think is the point) and the modern day stuff is just so great with the cast back for more. Becky continues to be the best, most interesting character and Alexandra Roach is just a damned fine actor. Her Welsh accented-cursing is the best!

Yeah Castle was enjoyable for a while for me but now its just dragging on and it seems like its a chore to watch. Just end already and make Firefly season 2.

I've read good things about Utopia and am planning to start watching it sometime. Hopefully your not talking about the retarded reality show Utopia. That and Orphan Black are my next ones to try.
"A Young Doctor's Notebook" is pretty entertaining. Watched 2 episodes so far. Look it up if you haven't heard if it, maybe you'll like it.

Yep, the British fictional show about the graphic novel is the one I'm talking about. REALLY good, if uncomfortable to watch.

Funnily enough I had the same confusion where my dad said he watched UTOPIA and hated it...and I finally puzzled out he was talking about that stupid new reality show. LOL

While I agree with Firefly comment, I still loved Castle all the way to the end of S5. Haven't seen S6 yet but it should be cheap on DVD eventually & I'm looking forward to it!

Haven't seen the new episode yet. Started it because the wife has a Masters in disaster management and loves that stuff. apparently we weren't paying attention because we thought it was going to be more like the movie Contagion, which it kinda is, but with vampires. Which was funny because we weren't expecting it.


Anyway...really enjoyed the first few eps, not as excited about the last couple. Still on the fence about it.
I've always been crazy but its kept me from going insane.

The Strain is pretty good but it also falls victim of the Prometheus variety. No one wants to admit that something bad is happening, and just does stupid shit that no sane person would do.

Edit: Can't wait for Persons of Interest though.

Re: OUTLANDER, I think we are on ep 4 up here, and we both loved it. The show continues to be pretty darn good Sunday-night viewing!

Is anyone being blown away by THE STRAIN?


....i read the books, liked 1, disliked 2, skimmed 3 basically to see how it ended. Wasn't impressed.
I wasn't enthused about the tv series, but the hype and clips made me think maybe it could work, so i've been dvr'ing it, but i can't muster any enthusiasm to watch. It's like RESURRECTION, LEFTOVERS and even WALKING DEAD... genre fan tho i am, i've lost interest in the core concepts (vampires, sorta zombies, the rapture or something, and zombies respectively). Maybe it's just that GRIMM and SLEEPY HOLLOW cover my supernatural network tv needs with a nice dose of camp and grimdark isn't where my thinkymeatz are at.

I'm having similar lack of interest feelings about GOTHAM and THE FLASH heading into the fall premiere season. Tho i'm utterly psyched for ARROW S3, that show won me over when there was a lack of superheroes on network tv. Same for AoS. I suspect i'll give Flash a chance because of the Arrow connections, but i'll wait and see what the buzz runs on GOTHAM for a few eps. The Adventures of Jim Gordon Wait No We Mean Young Bruce Wayne Wait No It's All About Gordon just doesn't grab me.


Curiously i'm psyched for CONSTANTINE, likely because the source material ranges wider and darker but retains the possibility of the camp i enjoy in Grimm and Sleepy.

TV these days seems to be just waiting for new seasons of Game of Thrones, House of Cards and Supernatural. Hannibal and The Following were nice interludes, but.... meh.
I guess I should maybe give BAKING BREAD another chance after dropping out with the episode where the bald guy runs into two mexicans in a parking lot.

I also gave THE STRAIN the benefit of the doubt, but everyone on it is too stupid to live.

Watching that show made my (usually QUITE malleable) suspension of disbelief-nerve twitch heavily, and I stopped.
