True Blood went to crap after season 4.
* The tedious Tara story line.
* Sookie jumping from man to man.
* Sookie always depressed and bitching and moaning about her "curse".
* The inane stories that seemed to be inserted so the show could satisfy the hour long commitment.
.... there is so much more on how craptastic this show got after season 4.
I'm actually watching season 7 because it is so horrible it needs someone to bear witness so this atrocity will never be repeated.
Oh, and killing off Alcide second episode into the final season is far from bold.... just sayin. I'm sure Joe Manganiello (who's star is rising) demanded his character be killed off so he could abandon this flaming heap of shit of a show.

Parks and Recreation is awesome! - Ron Swanson for president!
If you get a chance, I recommend Community as well. The creator of Rick and Morty (Dan Harmon) is the mastermind behind Community.... I need say no more! Have fun!
Two of the best shows, bar none, ever!

Keep in mind that season 1 of Parks and Rec is the most Office-y and it gets way more independently itself in personality from there on out (and has been consistently excellent its whole run since then IMO).
They came with white hands and left with red hands.

On the strength of this thread's recos, I watched LUTHER s1 ep 1.
I was unplussed. yes, Idris is a brilliant actor but his character struck me as unoriginal, ...the plot was predictable and while Alice was almost interesting, she's no Hannibal. Throw in my innate lack of interest in police procedurals or 'wah she don't luv me any more' plot lines and I was left with nada.
So convince me, forumites... Does this get wildly better quickly or am I just the wrong brainz for this show?

It gets better as the villains get more ridiculous -- which happens fast cuz the seasons are short. It's less procedural more Punisher-as-cop.

I think it gets better, but then I think the series 1 finale is some of the best TV I've ever watched.

Starz/Showcase OUTLANDER based on the Diane Gabaldon book series.
It was pretty good. It takes a LITTLE bit to get going as the opening bit in the 1940's (before Claire time travels to the past) and there is a little bit of heavy-handed foreshadowing...but the look, feel, and music (Bear McCreary!) are all sound. I don't like her modern day hubby (of Edmure Tully, "I survived the Red Wedding." fame) but I think it's intentional so you side with Jaime in the past.
Will keep watching.

I'm 3 epi in and really enjoying. Ep1 was the slowest. Has this only just shown ep1 up there so far?
Yeah, only last night.

Elba makes you care. He also makes you forgive the silly stuff too, while the entire cast and writers ratchet up the tension beautifully.
It's very much worth watching - if you aren't hellbent on nitpicking.

Not nitpicking, not slamming anyone's tastes, just that the fundamentals of the show from what i can tell...
- rough cop with brilliant instincts;
- fairly standard serial killer hunt;
- failed marriage waaaah;
... don't present anything that i would want to keep watching. It's like any other show, there's a core concept that has to draw me in and these don't.. I generally don't do cop shows, they aren't my thing. I gave LUTHER a try anyways based on the praise here because most things this forum raves about tend to be deserving of the love. I suspect i'll even try a few more eps based on the responses upthread.

Okay we are flying back to the UK today and I will miss having Parks and Rec on Netflix. We are into S3 and it is just getting better! Just watched the episode where April and Andy got married. Hilarious stuff!

It is more worth your time than some of the comics you are undoubtedly reading.
The cast is superb and will make almost all viewers care, even if the 10,000 foot overview is fairly standard as you lay it out.

I'm going to pretend I didn't Google that to see if Idris Elba had ever donned anything close to that.
Result: He didn't. Idris Elba is the baddass of all badasses and would never deign to don such tired 70's cliche's.

It saddens me that "Idris Elba on rollerskates" turns up little of interest and his Heimdall costume is the closest thing to a onesie.
The man is just too damn stylish. I take it all back, he SHOULD be the next Bond.
