Cool thanks both, we are definitely hooked right now so will be continuing but I think Netflix UK only has 6 seasons at the moment so it looks like a break from it is looming regardless!

For those who miss the fun Saturday night adventures of BBC'S MERLIN...have faith BBC's new show (produced by the same team, along with the show creator of MISFITS) ATLANTIS is cut from almost the exact same cloth. It's fun, adventurous, mysterious, magical, and basically the same style of show right down to its foundations.

The opening episode was great fun, and I look forward to watching the rest of the first series!

For those who didn't watch...last night's BIG BANG THEORY proved a few things:

1. Indiana Jones REALLY IS inconsequential to the story in RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK. If he's not in it, the end is still the same.

2. Raj being the last of the guys to be in any kind of stable relationship makes sense, but it's no less sad to have to watch him go through those motions of ineptitude.

3. Kaley Cuoco appears in a mostly sheer pink babydoll lingerie number, through which you can see her skivvies. Not the kind of thing you normally see on Sitcoms. Not that I'm complaining.

A few recent TV watches.

HIMYM final season is not only phoning it in now, they are inventing bizarre plot stumbles so they have something to talk about on each ep. And NONE of it is funny. Both the Mrs. and I kept remarking last night how horridly UNfunny it is. Like, oh let's make Barney's brother unhappy in his marriage....oh but he's not REALLY unhappy, he's just finding it hard not to ACT single...which comes a very long way from his intro Ep way back when, where the point was that he HAD learned how to be in a relationship and refused to be like he used to be. And I feel bad for Jason Segal...is he going to spend the entire season on his way in the car communicating by phone? Oh and a side plot about wedding gifts past and thank you notes, and much confusion and upset (never mentioned before....but never mind right?) over it....even though there was a gift and a thank you....it's like they've decided that they don't have any funny plotlines over a 72-hr period, so instead they are going for nonsense 1970's pratfall jokes and convoluted story points that ONLY exist to give them something to do for a half hour. Horrible. Absolutely the biggest downfall I've ever seen a formerly hit sitcom make.

DOWNTON ABBEY S4 Eps 3 and 4 (spoilers!)

REIGN

Hasn't started yet (tomorrow night), but I'm quite interested in this. The Mary Queen of Scots story is quite an interesting one, and I'll be glad to watch a very dramatized version of the tale (which REIGN appears to be from the trailers) if only because the actual story is fairly dry (if interesting, as said above). Sometimes I like my period pieces embellished. :p

I am so looking forward to the finale of HIMYM, just so I can finally be put out of my misery.

Meanwhile, in better TV, the Mrs and I are burning through Breaking Bad as fast as we can. Already up to ep 4 of S4.
OK, I think I got it, but just in case, can you say the whole thing over again? I wasn't really listening.

I have to agree, I think it was season 5 that was hailed as an absolutely abysmally unfunny season. This final season is, so far, breaking records of how unfunny a usually funny show can become.

Seriously, do they really intend to make a full season out of this crap? REALLY? I hope not!
Screw you all, and have a nice day!

Dexter season 5 is... Slightly less thrilling than I thought it would. We're talking about quitting after the end of it. I like Julia Stiles but her character is quite irritating. I want to feel for her & I know there should be empathy but... I just can't get interested. I think Rita kept him a bit grounded & represented his human side. Now she has gone Dexter himself has become darker & a bit mental...

HIMYM final season continues its plunge into severely warmed over sloppy shit.

Like I'm not even kidding. It's THAT bad now.

Watched Season one of Sherlock as I had only seen season 2. Very good and I am coincidentally reading all the stories so I can give a direct comparison meaning I catch all the little references in the show.

I'm ONLY watching to see how it ends now. I agree, it really IS that bad!

The sole funny moment so far has been the tears shed over the bottle of Scotch.

I've seen random episodes of that and I'm confused. Is the mother in the title whatsername from Buffy and the one narrating the friend of her boyfriend so are they going to have to get together at some point or have I misunderstood the entire premise?

No, Future Ted (dark-haired guy) is narrating (Bog Sagat) to his teen children the events that lead up to him meeting their mother. What followed is nine seasons of misdirection and false-mom relationships, including one of the main characters (Robin, dark hair) whom he has pined on and off for every season. In this, the tenth season (taking place over one 72hr weekend, the wedding of Barney (NPH) and Robin), we finally meet the ACTUAL mother (all we know so far is she's dark-haired, and in a band of some kind) who is not someone we've met before.

Buffy girl (Willow) is Lily, and Marshall (Jason Segel) are his best friends, they are married and have a son now.

The conceit of the show (him false starting with multiple women on his route to the kids mother) ceased being interesting in probably the 3rd season, as well as having him so obseessed with Robin, who isn't his wife, and is married to his friend Barney is the most awkward thing ever. I mean seriously, imagine telling your kids the story about you meeting their mother, and you spend 90% of it telling them just HOW in love you were with another woman. It makes NO logical sense, and makes Ted look like the douchebag he actually is.

Long story short, you ain't missing much.

Good summary, QT. I stopped watching this show a long time ago. The first season or so was funny, but it quickly devolved into raunch-humor, and it would have been hard to continue watching a show with such a startlingly unlikeable main character, even if it had remained funny...which it did not... The vindictive side of me is happy the final season is such a disaster, as sort of a validation of my long-term misgivings...

I like BBT for utterly selfish reasons. It makes me laugh, even though it takes pot-shots at nerd with outdated stereotypes. I have no reason WHY it makes me laugh, but I think most of it has to do with Sheldon's delivery of his lines most of the time. But yeah, I like it in spite of all that.

Well now that explanation really ruins it. I've always been watching it assuming the dark haired guy was going to ruin his bestfriends relationship and get with Willow so I thought it had a dark edge under all the schmaltz. Oh well.

Superb synopsis! The show should be called how I learnt to settle for your mother! Its also just so poorly executed that we will essentially have 9 seasons of how he got to point of meeting the mother, and two episodes of seeing their courtship. They claim this is the last season (true they have lied before) but if thats the case it will have been all lead up and no delivery. Also all that misdirection as you say will amount to nothing, she was in his class? So what?

The first two seasons were funny, well written, well filmed and generally top notch and well polished. Season three was good. I have never found it mentioned anywhere but I have to believe the writers, producers or director, maybe all of them, changed starting from season four though. The show devolved into slapstick nonsense and become poor all around.

Big bang theory which I used to really enjoy is also on a sharp decline. I think the problem is that at some point the writers assume we have become attached to the characters and so want to see them succeed in life, get married, change careers and other drama. I want laughs! I don't care about them developing real and meaningful relationships unless its funny. I dont want to see Sheldon become a real boy unless its funny. Also while Howards mother may have been funny once or twice, and Rajs failure to find meaningful love were funny once, they now seem to be humor with a very cruel streak.

Speaking of can anyone suggest a new comedy to fill the void?
