Burn & Brood

don't know where this should go so i'll post it here.
burn has been sleeping for just over 1000 years right? so she must have been awake whilst humans where on Wu.
so how will brood awakening her destroy civilization? doesn't seem to make much sense.
also i'll stick this in here to prevent another thread being made.
does anyone know when toc the younger wrote all those chapter headings?
oh and one other thing, brood's warren is tennes i think, the path of earth or some such. is there a house associated with this? perhaps with burn as ruler and brood as knight?

I might be wrong, but I was of the impression that Burn waking up would destroy the planet, rather than the civilisations -- the were colataral damage, so to speak. That's always how I read it.

dunno mate, thought they said that civilizations would topple.
doesn't it save the planet? as opposed to CG killing it?

Burn waking up would probably cause tectonic and volcanic activity on a wide scale. Like when you lash out in the morning after a serious drinking session cus someone woke you up stupidly early.

Man, my memory! It's not like I haven't read the books enough times. You might be right, I can't remember, and I don't even smoke dope.
I do remember those giants who were with Burn, they were holding something up. I thought they might of been keeping the world together, but it seems a bit weak now, I confess.

No I was under that impression too... I think they are sort of substituting for Burn while she is afflicted with the CG's cancerous powers.

Toc the younger must have written his texts some time between him joining the Grey Swords and his death on Lether.
If I'm not mistaken there a scene or two in RG were one of the Awl comment on him writting stuff down.

Tocs writings were recovered after his death
(the awl Torrent, talking to hetan)
'What do you carry'
... 'Scribblings, he painted many words, like a woman but he was not the coward I thought. He was not.'
'Scribblings?'
... 'The horse warrior... The Mezla'
(p771, RG, TPB)
So presumably all written down in his time with the awl, and later recovered by Tool

There is no House of Tennes, but I suspect it may be associated with High House Life, which QoD is Queen of... Her warren's aspect is also land/stone/etc

MOI pg 193 or so. Paran is looking at the tiles within the Azath House (Finnest?)
Paran returns to a different tile. The image of a sleeping woman.
She is Burn, the Sleeping Goddess. Then he saw the flaw, the marring a dark
suppurating welt. There at the wounds heart, a humped, kneeling, broken
figure. Chained. Chained to Burn's own flesh. From the figure down the chain
poison flowed into the sleeping goddess. She sensed the sickness coming
and chose to sleep. Less then 2000 ago she chose to sleep, to escape the
prison of her own flesh, in order to do battle with the one who was killing that
flesh. She made of herself a weapon. Her entire spirit, all its power, into a single
forging…a hammer, a hammer capable of breaking… anything. And Burn found
the man to wield it. Caladan Brood. Breaking the chains meant freeing the
cripple god, an unleashing of vengence. Enough to sweep all life from the
surface of this world. Burn, was indifferent to this. She would simply begin again. Now he saw it, saw the truth - he refuses. The bastard refuses!
To defy the Crippled God's unleashing of a deadly will, that would see us
all destroyed. Caladan Brood refuses her.

A hammer capable of breaking anything? Dragnipur, anyone?

@ Lisheo - It could well be that the hammer is capable of breaking Dragnipur.
Remember Withal's comments about the only ways to break Rhulad's sword.
Well maybe Broods hammer is that weapon powerful enough to destroy Dragnipur. If it's not powerful enough though, then that leaves option no.2, which is finding the original forge and taking Dragnipur back there. Where is that I wonder?

Quote
Off to the smithy. Not many ways of breaking a cursed sword. A weapon even nastier would do it, but in this case there wasn't one. So, back to an old smith's secret. To break an aspected weapon, bring it home, to the forge where it was born

The original forge is probably in Kurald Galain.

The only magic/warren usage we've really seen from the QoD is the warren she brought Leoman and Dunsparrow into, and which Cutter saw into while he was wounded. This is probably the same place she was when L'oric chatted with her. In any case, we're informed later by someone knowledgeable (Cotillion?) that it was the D'riss warren, which is also used by D'rek, "D'riss" being a very simple combination of the names "D'rek" and "T'riss".
Tennes on the other hand is definitely associated with Burn, and also to some extent with Fener/Tennerock, though he might have his own war-warren as well, or just be using a different piece of it.

During my re-read of GotM and the first half of MoI, prior to TtH coming out, it explains that if Burn dies, the poison of the Crippled God would be able to reach to all the other warrens and poison them as well. This would mean the end of all magic. Presumably this might also have some bad effects on Gods/Ascendants, who knows.
Brood's hammer can wake up Burn so she can fight the Crippled God. This would have the effect of killing lots of people, destroying civilizations etc. But Burn (and magic) would still be alive, and eventually life would return.
The fact that Burn has gone to sleep, rather than just fighting the CG to begin with seems to imply that she cares enough about the lives of mortals to at least try to keep them alive. But, if it comes down to it, she gave Brood the hammer to wake her, judging her life and magic to be more important.

Well yes, but one would think that even in the mortal plane he still has some power and some of that might well be warren-related, just like many of the gods were mages before ascending...

Well we know that he still has some power because the Errant didn't wan't a confrontation and was scared about who could be ttracted by Fener's power to his temple. Of course being really weak himself it's all debatable.

That doesn't seem right. Draconus made the sword, not Rake, and I don't think he would've had a forge in Kurald Galain.
