I'm getting a "second Season of DOLLHOUSE" Vibe from this early info...like this is going to be a game-changer of a final season!

i found DOLLHOUSE pretty dreadfull aside from a few sf-heavy eps, so the analogy fails me, but the advance buzz copming out of the critics tour for S5 is pretty encouraging.

I particularly like that they went into production knowing this was it for the show, so no ambiguity or waffling, it's balls out for glory and let's do this right!

Also like that they're picking up after the Observer Invasion future ep from S4. That ep was great and there's so much potential for genius in what comes next.

I am hoping for an appearance by the Redniverse folks. Would be a shame to see them left entirely aside (the end of that plot was by far the weakest thing about S4).

Did you watch it all though? Most people have that opinion until they watch all of both seasons and see what Whedon was trying to accomplish.

Every ep, as i have with all things Whedon. As with FIREFLY, i find there was too much 'trust me, this is all going somewhere awesome eventually' and not enough 'this is awesome NOW!!!'.

While the innate concept was interesting and the 'where he was going with it' had potential, the vast majority of eps were predictable, and even when they had a neat little moment like that time they downloaded the same bounty hunter persona into two dolls, it goes nowhere interesting.

FRINGE does ''this is awesome NOW!!!'. Sure there were lame eps but they typically blew the viewers' minds at least once per episode.

Almost caught up with Season 4 (3 eps left), but I just wanted to chime in....

Observer Future in 2036 with Peter's daughter Eta....

HOLY FUCKBALLS! Season 4 just went from super cool, to batshit fucking awesome!

I can't believe we are going to get a whole season of the Observer future!

That was a great opener!

Also, ending on Walter listening to one of my all time fave songs ever (Only You by Yaz) was fucking cream!

Good stuff!

I kind of love how FRINGE gets to just go all out this season. As kind of a reward to fans, it gets to finally be the full out genre show it is when it's best all the time. Everyone was spot on in the premiere...but Walter was just amazing throughout. I swear if John Noble doesn't get an Emmy at the next awards show I will riot.

Well, John Noble has been amazing throughout the series, so him being amazing in the season opener isn't really new. But yes, everyone delivered stellar and, more importantly, believable performances. I'm really looking forward to see where this is going.

You know I love FRINGE, right?

But...the 2036 storyline is just NOT working for me. Just totally not where I thought the show was going.

Having come this far, I'll stick with it till the end, but so disappointed right now.
OK, I think I got it, but just in case, can you say the whole thing over again? I wasn't really listening.

Am up to date and sitting somewhat in the middle. I enjoyed the S5 premiere, it had sufficient action and tension, nicely established the new setting and had a fat observer frying Walter's brainz for most of the episode.

But ep2, while i like the development of Henrietta and specifically that she is NOT all sweetness and light, was pretty boring.

Generally I am also not blown away by the idea that the entire season will be a search for Walter's lost recordings, rather than digging into some serious fringe science madness to strike at the Obs. I wanted to see more vicious nasty Walter and instead they shoved him back to underwear-Walter the first chance they got.

And Asteroid isn't doing much which is silly after they made her way more effective and interesting last season.

I'm in for the season of course but i want more of what made me love this show.

Ugh.

I swear to Odin, if they spend too much time on this scavenger hunt for Walter's tapes I'm going to be very annoyed.

Yeah, this latest episode was pretty damn boring. No progress at all. They have one season only and they use their time to make these kinds of episodes? Seems like they could have just ended the show last season.
No Touchy.

Agreed. Most of the drama was other people and they handwaved the mystery of what was happening to the refugees.
Weak ep, second one in a row.

Latest ep was great. Perhaps stopped short of truly being as great as it could have been, but the best of the season so far and finally amped things up for the remaining eps.

Liked the opening at the store. Showed the creepy side of the Observers very well.

THE BULLET THAT SAVED THE WORLD was totally the bullet Peter shot Olivia with at the end of last season. Was surprised they never explained that... then again "Actually 'Etta, your dad shot me with that once when my crazy powers that your grandfather gave me threatened to destroy the universe. It was a turning point in our relationship." .... might have been a bit odd.

Still, Walter's line... 'We used to investigate Fringe events. It's time we created some!' should have been the catchphrase of the season since the first ep. And they didn't take it far enough. Amber and the face-covering spray were all good and a nice nod to porcipine man and the Redniverse, but i wanted to see the monster slugs, weaponized anti-gravity formulas, and spontaneous combustion rays!

Bummer about Etta, especially with so many questions about her still not answered, tho now with the Broyles link we'll probably get that eventually. as well, they left enough of an out to bring her back, given what we saw with that resistance member's detached head a few eps ago.

I'm hoping for some serious angry Peter now. Jackson does angry vengeful Peter really well. Throw in a return to badass Walter and we could really be in for a great finish to the series.

I hope.

Holy fucksteaks, last week's ep was brilliant.
A real Fringe science element, shoutbacks to a bunch of previous eps, a return of Nasty Walter, Peter kicking all kinds of ass... this season is finally hitting its stride!
