Thanks D'rek. Actually you are right, two games back to back is not a good idea. The M&P was only because I thought I should start with a 'simple' game, but if I put my merc game in the development area, and if some kindly, other side of the world, person helps with the modding I should be okay.
Can't remember if I said the merc is a mini (16 players), it should be a fairly high TMDI (is that the right way round?), but like I said I need some wise people to help me in the development area.
Thank you

'Tell me, Tool, what dominates your thoughts?'
The Imass shrugged before replying. 'I think of Mafia, Adjunct.'
'Do all Imass think about Mafia?'
'No. Few think at all.'
'Why is that?'
The Imass leaned his head to one side and regarded her. 'Because, Adjunct, they are sheeple.'
Sometimes I wonder, "Why is that frisbee getting bigger?" ... and then it hits me.

Judging from the title, is that going to be based off the famous novel? Which means that factions would be Cao Cao, Liu Bei, and Sun Jian?
Sounds pretty awesome.

and Yuan Shao, Yuan Shu, Dong Zhuo, Lu Bu, Gongsun Zan, Liu Zhang, Liu Biao, Zhang Xiu/Ji, Ma Teng, Tao Qian and maybe even Meng Huo. There is definitely no limit to the number of players I can take on this one! Oh and Zhang Jue, too, if I work the Yellow Scarves in...
edit: also Kong Rong, Han Xuan, Jin Xuan, Liu Du, Liu Yu, Shi Xie/Hui, Wang Kuang, Wang Lang, Yan Baihu, Zhang Lu, Zhao Fan, Zhang Yang... I could go on

So how many players is that?
I remember the first draft me and goe had for LOTR, it was close to 50 characters easily, with everyone having a role even if it was a soldier, and enough mechanics that affected everyone. It was a good thing we didn't do that or it would have required about 5 to 10 mods to run lol, with a bit of hacking we got it down to 25 players. I thought the game went well despite it being a shadow of what it could have been.
Also the other problem would have been getting that many people to play lol, which was why it got dropped down to 25.
Would a Night Watch themed game be interesting?

I don't intend to actually use all those players, I'm just demonstrating that I am not limited in what I can do with it player-wise. I can do just the 3 kingdoms for 3 factions, or even just Dong Zhuo vs the coalition for 2 factions, but if necessary I could instead do 20 factions easily. And each of those warlords has at least 3 warriors under his command...
As for a Night Watch mafia, I'm not sure if Night Watch really has much that ports over to mafia very well. It'd have to be a game with experimental mechanics, or else it'd end up just being standard mafia with character names. Could be worth a shot though, I'll certainly play.

When I do a themed game I try to come up with some new mechanics that would work with the theme.
The mirror would be a very interesting predator.

That would be an interesting role indeed! You'd have to tell him he's RI so he proceeds blindly unknowing everyone who attacks him gets killed.
Dunno how you'd work the gloom/twilight into it, but the intrigue games between Gesar and Zabulon are like WIFOM-central

Damn it I think I could do a game based on the night watch series!
The line out would be
Night Watch (Gesar, Anton, Seymon)
Day Watch (Zabulon, Alisa, Edgar)
Uninitiated others (including sveta)
Mirror
Ordinary humans?
Duel mechanic (a little something me and goe came up in lotr so as to simply recreate wizard duels and so forth)
Twilight mechanic (Not sure how this will work at the moment)
Initiation mechanic
recruit mechanic for the humans
15 to 25 players maybe and it could work.

Well I think to be truthful to the book, the mirror just starts off as an unintiated other, who becomes a mirror when one side becomes too powerful, but he doesn't realise what happened.

Heck, by the books I think the mirror wasn't even an uninitiated other, just a human who the primordial forces made him suddenly want to kill goth kids. And yeah, he gets more powerful when attacked by greater and greater foes, but he rarely does anything unless attacked, in which case he turns it upon his attacker, so I don't think he should have an active kill or vig ability, just anyone who attacks him gets killed themselves. He'd have to not know that though or whomever is playing him would do whatever possible to get everyone to NK him and the game would run out of NAs very quickly.
Here's my idea for a cultish setup, based on the Last Watch:
Final Watch (Edgar, Gennady, Arina)
-Edgar can recruit innos into magically-augmented mercenaries
-Gennady a mediumish role (Finder, guard, whtaever)
-Arina healer
-off-thread communication for balancing, perhaps
Night Watch (Gesar, Anton, Olga, etc.)
-about 5 players
-Gesar recruits innos into Light Ones
-rest have medium abilities, BPs, etc.
Day Watch (Zabulon, etc.)
-about 3 players
-1 mediumish ability (guard, healer, whatever)
-Zabulon recruits innos into Dark Ones
-also have a killer
Town
-a ton of RIs
-gain abilities when recruited
-originally have massive majority
-Each Watch needs to eliminate the other 2
-Innos only win if all recruiters are eliminated *before* there is only 1 watch left, and then they lynch the remaining Others
-thus, the innos are not really meant to win, they are just meant to get gradually recruited to beef up the Watches over time, while initially keeping a damper on the lynch power of any Watch.

The mirror is a very low power Other, who is like level 6/7, so if you read the last watch there a chance Egor can become a mirror.
My game would be most likely Day Watch in time frame.

General King
The inquisition did jack all in the Last Watch. If you do Night or Day Watch, then they still do nothing except recap at the end. You could give some characters "illegal" vigs and if they use 'em before the inquisiton players are dead the viggers get killed, or some such, but that's getting exceedingly complex for little justifiable reason...

Good point, the inquistition seems to be more involved in the films.
But according to the books they had quite a bit of power the only reason why they were behind the scenes was that there was only a small handful of them compared to the watches.

Well their job is only to act when someone breaks the rules of the Treaty, and Gesar and Zabulon are far, far too smart to ever break the rules in such a way that the Inquisition could prove, hence why whenever there's an Inquisition trial Gesar and Zabulon walk away clean as a whistle.
