*cough*

I. AM. NOT. LEFT. HANDED.
Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

Inigo Montoya: You are wonderful.
Man in Black: Thank you; I've worked hard to become so.
Inigo Montoya: I admit it, you are better than I am.
Man in Black: Then why are you smiling?
Inigo Montoya: Because I know something you don't know.
Man in Black: And what is that?
Inigo Montoya: I... am not left-handed.
[Moves his sword to his right hand and gains an advantage]
Man in Black: You are amazing.
Inigo Montoya: I ought to be, after 20 years.
Man in Black: Oh, there's something I ought to tell you.
Inigo Montoya: Tell me.
Man in Black: I'm not left-handed either.

Final battle in Evil Dead 3 "Army of Darkness" where Campbell fights evil Campbell reincarnated or whatever the ridiculously awesomely ridiculous plot is at that point.

To stray off topic just a bit, and I wait for the battering I might get for suggesting such a thing, the WORST sword fight I've ever seen, is the one where Darth Vader kills Obi Wan Kenobi. The fighting is just so slow and blatantly planned. The poor old Alec Guinness is already blocking Vader's strikes before he's even made them. Now I know he's got the Force, but come on.

Yeah, it wasn't great. Swing left, parry. Swing right, parry. Swing high, parry. Look at Luke, drop saber, die. Too bad they didn't have the technology to superimpose Guinness's face onto a stunt double, like they did with Christopher Lee in one of the new ones.

If SW is eligible, Yoda vs Dooku.

Weird, I've never noticed how poor the CGI was in that scene. It all looks artificial.

And why the hell Dooku didn't just slice Yoda in half while he was saving Obi Wan I don't know.

I can't be the only person here who dislikes Yoda can I? I was so happy when the emperor kicked his ass.

Annoying little puppet.

Annoying little puppet.
I discounted all star wars automatically becuase of the old ones epic crappness (guiness sohw some speed please, you're a jedi)
And all the "awesome" fights just look fake, especially the green midget bouncing around the place. (I might give an out to the sky city fight, only because it involves the loss of a hand)
I consider an aweseom swordfight is were they get tired, its gritty, and half real looking.
Ala Gladiator where his instincts hold him in the fight and in the end dirty brute force wins the fight.
Basically most fight scenes choreographed by William Hobb.

Troy. Achiles and hector was awesome. Even petricles and hector was good.

Last samurai had some ok moments 2...(realism)

I don't particularly give the movie a lot of love, but skipping over the cheesy plot elements and honourable silliness like asking for breaks, the Peter vs. Evil King dude in Prince Caspian had a few nice bits, especially when it came to using your sheild to punch the other guy's face in.

I vaccilate on the Dooku v Yoda thing because while my inner child got a kick out of just seeing Yoda throw down, the movie sucked and the CGI was eh.

While we're still in the Star Wars vein, the Luke v Vader duels in EMPIRE and RETURN were way better that Vade v Obi. Not 'best ever' material, but better. There was a lot of 'Luke gets angry and freaks out and attacks to a rousing Williams score' moments that just worked.

I totally agree KILL BILL had some awesome ones - in fact, all of them.

The dialogue in THE PRINCESS BRIDE was the best thing about the fight ref's above. Otherwise it'sore or less 'standard' Hollywood rapier duel imnsho.

- Abyss, thought Yoda would have been cooler with a chain-gun.

No, but it was raised in a thread titled 'Best Movie Swordfight' and so i was disqualifying it from such.

- Abyss, similarly disqualifies the lightsabre duel at the end of HOT SHOTS PART DEUX, in case you were wondering.

I'm guessing you guys have very little knowledge of the true classics of the swashbuckling art; the Stewart Granger/Mel Ferrer fight from Scaramouche or maybe the final Errol Flynn/Basil Rathbone fight from The Adventures of Robin Hood
If an opinion contrary to your own makes you angry, that is a sign that you are subconsciously aware of having no good reason for thinking as you do. If some one maintains that two and two are five, or that Iceland is on the equator, you feel pity rather than anger, unless you know so little of arithmetic or geography that his opinion shakes your own contrary conviction. … So whenever you find yourself getting angry about a difference of opinion, be on your guard; you will probably find, on examination, that your belief is going beyond what the evidence warrants. Bertrand Russell
