Was reading randomly in the series, last night and ran into this quote ...

(Bugg to Shurq) "The language on the door belongs to an extinct people known as the Forkrul Assail, who are collectively personified in our Fulcra by the personage we call the Errant." (Bantam PB, 449)

This begs the question was the original Errant Forkrul or has the Errant changed his appearance some how?

My 2 cents: We know the FA's dealt out their own idea of justice and the Errant likes to nudge things to suit himself. Neither cared about how it affected anyone. I think Bugg meant that the Errant personfied them as in acting like them. We do find out a lot more about the FA and the Errant interacting in RG, which I can't put here.

You do need to have a re-read of RG and I'm sure you'll see what I mean.

The FA are something that SE seems intent on tantalizing us with, and leaving to ICE to write thoroughly about.

Though perhaps they'll throw us a bone in TtH.

The reread is well WELL worth the effort for clarity

You're too nice! Go get it back, it's yours and taking 6 months is not reading a book imo! It's taking advantage!

Does anyone have a page number for the reveal of the Errant's origins? I keep finding him being mentioned as an Elder God. Seems that he might be quite old.

I can give you some page numbers from my Bantam paperback version of MT.

Chapter 20, p. 734: Turudal Brizad talks about the collapse of the First Empire, the Ritual, the T'lan Imass, and the Jheck. P. 737-38: Bugg chats with the Errant (not yet named) about the same topics.

Chapter 22, p. 792-93: Moroch Nevath reveals to Brys Beddict that Turudal Brizad is the Errant. P. 806-07: Turudal Brazad's pov shows that Moroch was right.

Didn't the Assail assault Errant in ages bygone? Something due to their personal ire over ennui, which was the Errant's business. I don't recall if that was offhanded in Midnight Tides or Reaper's Gale.

Am I right?
If there were no smart people others wouldn't feel inadequate.

Right?

Since Forkrul Assail is all about order; whereas, Errant is about change,
maybe Bugg's commentary was partly tongue-in-cheek.
