Has anyone heard of this before? (I hadn't, hence the thread):
The Bastards and the Knives: The Mad Baron's Mechanical Attic and The Choir of Knives: An Omnibus: The Gentleman Bastard - The Prequel (Paperback)
Found it on Amazon.co.uk
Sounds pretty exciting... a prequel to The Lies of Locke Lamora. One has to wonder if it will feature Locke's gal pal
EDIT TO ADD: Can't find it on Amazon.com... also Scott Lynch's official site has no mention of it

I noticed this a few months ago, and went into Waterstones to ask about it, because I'd never heard of it before. According to their computer system, it's scheduled for release in 2010, so it's a bit to wait yet. Odd, seeing as the cover art is on Amazon already.

Weird... Amazon.co.uk shows release date as Nov 1 '08 (but then we all know about Amazon and release dates).
Found it on Amazon.ca and there they have the cover art Brood mentioned up as well.
Date given there is May 2010

IIRC it was originally going to be published in the UK this year but then there was some dispute about who had the rights to publish it and the UK publishers are going to have to wait until after a limited edition has been published. I think Subterranean Press were meant to be publishing the limited edition sometime, but I haven't heard about a release date for it.

Yeah, it was originally going to be published simultaneously by Subterrenean and Gollancz, but it then turned out that Sub had an 18-month exclusivity contract. And given that Lynch hasn't written it yet, so it won't be out in the USA until 2009, that explains the 2010 release date.
Personally I'm thinking this isn't that much of a great idea, if it delays The Thorn of Emberlain any further

I second that Wert. I'm very interested to see where Lynch takes this series.....and a prequel or whatever doesn't seem to help much....

I enjoy a bit of backstory, personally. No need to rush these things;)

He wont slip in the girl i the novella when shes set to be in the next book anyway. Hes kept her hidden enough that hell wait for the real book. Besides seems the book will hit first.
Im sad I thought the novella was about the mad count now I relise its the mad baron. I was always curious about the war they alwasy talk about ih the md count. It seems to have been a really hectic story

Must be an error. Scott hasn't even started writing it yet, so it's obviously not coming out in a week's time.
I believe the current idea is that Scott finishes off the final draft of The Republic of Thieves before the end of the year, then works on the novella for a few months, it comes out in the USA from Sub Press in late 2009 and then in major edition from Gollancz (and presumably Bantam in the US) in summer 2011, around the same time (hopefully) Book 4, The Thorn of Emberlain also comes out.

Forget it, as the book isn't even in production at the moment. . .
