Does anyone know who this is? I feel as if he was introduced in Deadhouse Gates but I don't have the book right now so I can't look. I think the fact that one of his swords was bent is important but again, I can't remember.

His Identity is revealed in "House of Chains" (the next book)
and yes, he was in DG.
i think openly saying his name in this forum would constitute a spoler, so I won't do it.

Well, from MOI it says that he once stood within fire, he's a Malazan, he's got golden-tinted skin like Gesler and Stormy, and he died. It's not Kulp, if that helps.
Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

Are you mixing up Treaches Mortal Sword, Gruntle, with the Knight of Death?

Brukhalian refused the offer, Apt. So I don't think Hood can take him.
Don't forget, Coll identifies the Knight of Death as Malazan......

From the FAQ's
Link is safe for spoilers - post MoI material is behind tags.
In summary: there is more than enough evidence in MoI alone to prove that the Knight of Death is Baudin.

Was I the only one that was confused by the Gidrath armour?

not at all thelomen toblerone, as i said, i wonder why hood clothed him in the armour of the gidrath, and why he was sent to capustan for that matter too. obviously much death was forseen there by hood, but when hood attends to brukhailian's corpse, you'd think that he was nearby anyway, so why send the knight as well?
i guess his story doesn't end with capustan being liberated though, as there is the bit with the myhbe (sp?) as well, but ehh...

Perhaps the Knights armor can mirror the areas he enters. Sort of like the servants of Hood emulate what ever beliefs the local culture have of death.

Kulp had the golden skin as well? Since when? And what of Heboric?

I'm confused. Why's Kulp coming back into the conversation? Illy said it wasn't Kulp.
"Here is light. You will say that it is not a living entity, but you miss the point that it is more, not less. Without occupying space, it fills the universe. It nourishes everything, yet itself feeds upon destruction. We claim to control it, but does it not perhaps cultivate us as a source of food? May it not be that all wood grows so that it can be set ablaze, and that men and women are born to kindle fires?"

It's not. Baudin is the Knight of Death. Kulp was eaten alive by Gryllen.

Oh, I know that. I just couldn't understand what all the confusion at the bottom of page 1 of this thread was about.

I think the confusion arrised when someone commented on what skin color Kulp had after the trip through Tellan/thyrlann. If he was one the deck when they went through the flames, he would have been dosed in the same way Gesler and the others are.

He did, I think eaten by Gryllen. I think only the people on deck and touched by flame on the Silanda were burnished.
*edit I apologize for the repeated answer, I hadn't noticed page two.

sorry for the necro but I figured i'd rather ask here than start a new topic
Why would Baudin have become the KoD? He derided all the gods in DG, even not wanting to be touched by Heboric. Was it just Hood's Mystical Memory Wiping Powers , something else, or do we just not know.
