My vote goes to V for Vendetta

Close runner up is 300 or Serenity (even though it's based on a show).

What's yours?

So last night I was walking downtown for some pizza at like 1am with some friends of mine,
and someone said, "I'm so hungry I could eat a whole pizza."

I said, "I bet I could eat 100 pizzas," and no one understood me. I was sad.

V for Vendetta and 300 are based on comic books. So is A History of Violence. Hero was loosely based on some old Chinese story and perhaps Rashomon, and Children of Men has a literary precursor, so I'm going to disregard them for this discussion.

Adaptation, Kill Bill, Syriana, The Incredibles and Ratatouille all come to mind, but I give the nod to Letters from Iwo Jima.

based on the book 'picture letters from commander in chief' by the Japanese general on the island, can't remember his name off hand. :D

still best original movie.

well, for pure originality, i'd probably go with ong-bak.

granted its the same sort of hackneyed plot we've seen dozens of times, but it was delivered with some ridiculous stunt-work, so i forgive it :(
meh. Link was dead :(

I agree with Oldboy- I've never seen such a fucked up twisted plot, absolute genius stuff.

Well it's fair to say that MOST movies are based on books/events/people, I was more talking about movies that aren't remakes, knock-offs or sequels.

Kill Bill

Based on a Japanese serial from the 70's called Lady Snowblood. Not original.
