ah, all the better to be unofficial so that alliances can be made without having to avert others questing eyes. and so the plan unfurls...

I expect Kalam will return, but I doubt he'll be the same Kalam. Betrayal, supposed death, and the Malaz Deadhouse is eerily similar to the path to ascendancy Kellanved & Dancer took. I wouldn't be surprised if our first glimpse of Kalam reborn (whether we realize it or not) is in a new card in the Deck.
Shadowthrone knows the deadhouses better than anyone. I wondered why he sat back and urged Kalam to make it to the door on his own (which also implied Kalam know it would be his only chance), and only dragged him to the threshold begrudgingly when Kalam ran out of gas. I've toyed with a few weak theories (other than sheer godly laziness), but it is obvious to me that something more significant than mere healing will result from Kalam's stay in the Azath.
And I'm sure this has been discussed, but who pulled Kalam in? Edgewalker?

Reapers Gale and Night of Knives SPOILERS

No i think it was Temper being the new Guardian of the Azath as per NoK who pulled Kalam into the House.
But you bring up a good point maybe he ll come out half Ascended like Gesler and Stormy are but maybe something related to Hoods House(cause the place is called Deadhouse after all) or something to do in Shadow cause the Rope thinks to himself somewhere at the start of RG that if only QB knew what was ST s plan for Kalam he would freak out.

Temper didn't put Kalam in the Azath, there's a second guardian in the Azath. Temper was across the street in Coops.

on another note I dont see things ending well for Kalam...

also he must have been powerful enough already for the azath to take notice and accepted.
You can't find me because I'm lost in the music

And here I thought it was Gothos playing dress-up...
(An eternity in the Azath necessitates some peculiar hobbies... and fetishes...)

wow. that my friends, is what you call someone that has too much free time on their hands. not only gothos but a'kyronas too.

the top sign that you spend too much time on the internet is: you talk with someone from south africa multiple times each day but havn't talked to your neighbors in over a year. sound familiar?

the first paragraph: i thought a'kyronas' comment was way to witty to have been spontaneous, i thought hed been sitting on that one for a long while. the guardian has too much time on his hands becuase he has peculiar hobbies; not something everyone in the book has time for. (excluding wax witches, who spend their whole time on their hobbies)

the second part i was commenting on how we spend all this time on the internet, talking to people who could be perverts (and yes, i mean you apt. and you a'kyronas, just look at your comment...) while some of us social rejects never talk to anyone else.

I don't know whether to be offended or flattered :)

I wonder if Temper just sits in Coops all day in full battle armor with a sword and shield lying on the tabel, drinking beer and mooning over the barmaid.

that is a very good possibility but he could probably spirit his army to him with a snap of a wrist (wow, do wrists snap?) there have been others that do that. (i think) well, the mooning part anyways...

Gothos was residing in Deadhouse :)

Ah thats true but i was under the impression that it was Temper who dragged Kalam into Deadhouse cause on pg. 1167 (bantam edition BH)
"A huge armoured figure filled the portal looking down"
And then again at the bottom of the same page
"An armoured monstrosity ascended into view. Braven Tooth blinked, then grunted under his breath and approached.
'Evening, Temper.'
And then later he asks Temper what brought him out of Deadhouse wearing that.
Please correct me if i m wrong

Not at all :)

I believe that we won't know the answer to that one yet, as Temper was in NoK and Gothos was in Deadhouse Gates, and one event happened later than the other.

oh yeah didnt think about it that way.
But something else struck me when ST says "My what a beautiful collection i have" just after he puts Kalam in the Azath.
Maybe this has some connection to Dasseems daughter in the Azath in Raraku (cant remember its name Tremelor or something).
He s collecting something and even the Rope hints at it in his POV in RG

collecting somethings. you forgot the s. what use is a collection if you've only got the first piece?

i don't think power has all to do with the azath accepting you. in the path of hands, every di'ivers and soletaken that had gotten to tremorlor first, got sucked down.

when Kalam meets "laseen" in the pitch black room at the end of one of the books, was that in the deadhouse? i remember the name, but it might have just been establishing the building's location in the city.

Actually, it was spontaneous. I'm really just that witty and hilarious. It's fun.

Right "somethings" thanks for the correction
Its not about having power but just being accepted though in this case he wasnt really accepted. Kalam was picked up by the Guardian and dragged inside.
And the place your thinking of is Mocks hold where the original ruler of Malaz city used to rule from before Kel and Dancer usurped them.

Would Paran be able to "bust" Kalam out after the house heals him do yall think?

I'm sure he could bust him out. The healing, notsomuch. If he had any healing power, he probably would have at least been able to sustain Dujek long enough to get the ex-Soliel priest powered up. Or he wouldn't have needed the priest at all, just Soliel's blessing on himslef. I don't think Paran's command of the warrens and the deck extend to actually using magical power from warrens the way mages and healers do. but he could always intimidate a god into doing it :heyhey: .

remember though, paran's powers are a mystery even to himself. as the master of the deck i don't doubt that he could get Kalam out. i agree with the bit about paran not using customary magic. he sanctioned the House of Chains with a blessing. that didn't come from any warren or hold.
