i agree, Kalam i saw as being more bearish. I imagined Quick Ben as being 'the missing link'-dark with those pearly white teeth. And yes, 'Whiskeyjack is prime.'

I wonder when the fantasy industry is going to realize that a book with a nice cleanly designed cover like this in the fantasy section is way more eye-catching than Tommy the green power ranger astride a horse?
is it commonly realized that one of those GOTM covers features Tommy the power ranger as the guy modeling for whoever is on the horse? 100%. hilarious.


If i'd never heard of this book I'd be 100x more likely to pick it up and give it a shot than any of the actual covers to any of the Malazan books

I always pictured Kalam to be larger as well. More muscular. Whiskeyjack is prime. Quick Ben is spot on, albeit slightly more pasty than I reckoned. I love whiskeyjacks beard and hair.

i like it. I love how Brood somehow resembles james kirk.
i always thought of him as a thick giant with a shaved head and darker skin.
