Welcome to Eclipse

The galaxy has been a peaceful place for many years. After the ruthless Terran–Hegemony War (30.027–33.364), much effort has been employed by all major spacefaring species to prevent the terrifying events from repeating themselves. The Galactic Council was formed to enforce precious peace, and it has taken many courageous efforts to prevent the escalation of malicious acts. Nevertheless, tension and discord are growing among the seven major species and in the Council itself. Old alliances are shattering, and hasty diplomatic treaties are made in secrecy. A confrontation of the superpowers seems inevitable – only the outcome of the galactic conflict remains to be seen. Which faction will emerge victorious and lead the galaxy under its rule?

A game of Eclipse places you in control of a vast interstellar civilization, competing for success with its rivals. You will explore new star systems, research technologies, and build spaceships to wage war with. There are many potential paths to victory, so you need to plan your strategy according to the strengths and weaknesses of your species, while paying attention to the other civilizations' endeavors.

The shadows of the great civilizations are about to eclipse the galaxy. Lead your people to victory!

Posting Guide

Now, there are no set formats for how you should post in thread. I don't see why posts in here should be limited to orders as part of any game is the conversations that happen above the table. All game discussion should be contained in this thread. So no pms to work out deals. If you want to come to some sort of agreement with another player, it is to be done in here. In full view of all the others.

However, it is important to keep actions distinct from other posts. For that reason I propose that every action posts have a heading that includes player faction and what action is to performed.

Example:
...
Planta - Research

I wish spend 16 science to research wormhole generators.
....

There's naturally nothing wrong with fluffing out the action post to fit more in the image of your faction. What is important is that it is easy to see that this is an action post, and what action it proclaims.

Additionally: In order to keep track of each players available resources, I suggest we keep a current resource tracker at the end of each action post. So, imagining that I have 20 in Research prior to the action, 6 in Economy and 15 in production, my post should look something like this.

....
Planta - Research

I wish spend 16 science to research wormhole generators

R: 4
E: 6
P: 15
...

This way players will be able to keep track of what future actions you will be able to perform, not to mention simplifying the updating process for your beloved mod.

Some clarification regarding progress of actions

In theory there is nothing wrong in STD doing an action before IH's action has been fully resolved. Say for instance that IH chose to explore 1B. It might take some time before I manage to resolve that action, and once I do IH will have the chance of discarding the new tile, or turning it in whatever direction he prefers.

During that time there is no reason why STD shouldn't be able to research, build, upgrade, move, or even explore on his own. There will be instances where such actions might be problematic. For instance where IH explores a tile bordering on STD's territory. I leave it to the players discretion, although I will have the final say if the process garners protests. As we play I'm sure there we will get the feel of when moving ahead is a good idea or not.

First!

So after the first round we are doing clockwise turn order, right? Oh, and for new people I think there is a brown planet under the defense thingy in the middle!

Ment, if you aren't sure what you want to do, explore!

At what point does it generally make sense to assault the Galactic Centre? I can see that it might have some strategic value, but it also seems like it's quite well defended for the early game...

It provides a sizable economic boost, and is the most valuable piece in regards to VP.

I've seen it taken round 2, but that's rare I'm told.

Depends if anyone else goes for it (especially Tapper)! If you end up with the resources to get a decent bunch of ships together by round 3 or so and no one else seems able to either match you or reach the center (if they have no access to it or are blocked by Ancients), you could try and grab it then since you wouldn't have to worry much about people stealing it from you. If others look like they might be able to attack you in the centre just as soon as you take it, you may want to grab it first just to get the discovery tile and resources, or may want to wait an extra turn so you have more forces left to defend it.

Or, if there are lots of Ancients and no one has a ton of resources, it might stay unconquered until round 7 or 8!

So since Ment is all the way over there, can I start exploring?

ACTION: At the direction of the Hydrani Overwatch Council, an EXPloratory mission is launched from Beta Hydri towards the galactic center, hoping to discover new Tier I habitable planets which will expand the Hydran research machine.

In the future, I'd prefer if you used the grid numbers I posted above.

Yes, please re-orient it so it does not border 1F.

A transmission from the Hydrani exploratory expedition revealed that there were habitable planets in sector 1E, but the transmission was then mysteriously cut off...

A missive to Tapper, the Orion commander (who's title/Hegemoniker I know not) and the Imperial Historian, CEO of the Terran Conglomerate:

Our long-range scanners detect that Planta is walling itself off, exploring outwards while directing as few wormholes towards you, it's neighbouring nations, as possible. I think we can all agree that if we are to have any room for ourselves in this galaxy, then Planta will need some weeding before the hexes run out! I urge you to explore centrally, making wormhole paths into sectors 1A, 2A and 2L before the Planta have a chance to seal themselves off completely, and to consider the benefit of charting routes in deep space to the rear of their growing empire, lest they build too much of a defense in a sole choke point.

Sincerely,

The Hydran Overwatch

We are but peaceful moss dreaming of peace and dancing child things. Our ships are puny and prone to wilting.

Galaxy, we salute you. For the security and safety of all, once the human empires have finished their initial advance into space, the Hegemon of Orion shall order one of his quartermasters to lead his exploration detachment into sector 1F. Stand in our way at your own peril.

An answer to D'rek, Overwatch of the Hydrans:

The Hegemon of Orion assures you that he is aware of his duties to maintain the peace in the larger Galaxy. Our strength shall be deployed for the good of all, but Orion has needs of its own.

Greetings from the President of the Terran Republic. Long have we prided ourselves on our reasonable and measured debate before choosing our course of action. This day is no different, for we choose to await the Mustachioed one before making our move.

(Despite how the above post implies I have patience, I don't think I'm going to be keeping up the RP for very long, I'm afraid).
