If you're a fan of Steven Erikson's A Tale of the Malazan Book of the Fallen, then like me you've been salivating at the sight of Michael Komarck's gorgeous art commissioned for the Subterranean Press limited edition of Gardens of the Moon.

The artist keeps a very tight schedule, and assorted deadlines prevent him from reading every novel he needs to illustrate. Hence, he asked me to help him in that regard, and I thought it would be a good idea to invite the entire Malazan family to the dance.

Komarck would like us to tell him six of our favorite moments/scenes from Gardens of the Moon we would like to see in the limited edition. Please submit them in the comment section of the blog.

This will help him quite a bit, and the book will be out much more rapidly if the artist doesn't have to second-guess everything he's doing. The art we've seen thus far as been incredible, so you can now help select what is coming next!

P. S. It looks as though there will be a Michael Komarck giveaway. . .:(

Does he want descriptions? Are we allowed to submit quotes from the books so he has the entire scene to base it on?

The scenes I'd like to see the most are:

1: Pale. This he has already covered but the scene with Hairlock lying severed in half, and tattersail meeting the BBs for the first time would be awesome.

2: Jen'isand Rul: Paran and the Hounds inside the sword Dragnipur. The big wagon with all the chains in the background with all the chaos filling the sky, ash raining down, etc.

3: The Fête: Perhaps the fencing scene between Turban Orr and Rallick Nom. You could have Rake, Baruk, Kruppe, Crone, Crokus, etc in the backgrown.

4: The Emergence of the Finnest Azath: Raest writhing and Paran in the Shadow Hound half-form. The BBs, The Cabal and the people of Darujistan in the background.

5: Rake's battle with Galayan Lord: This could either be in their dragon forms, a giant black dragon with a silvermane fighting a big dungcolored dragon of light - or - In their humanoid forms fighting with their weapons in hand, perhaps with Baruks estate in the background or something.

6: The Hounds slaughtering the company of soldiers on that Itko Kan island in the beginning of the book. Perhaps with some dramatic shadows of Shadowthrone and Cotillion hovering over them.

Monster Hunter World Iceborne: It's like hunting monsters, but on crack, but the monsters are also on crack.

Are you implying that I didn't read the OPs post thoroughly enough?

I would take offence if I cared :(

Anyway, no reason to submit the scenes before I get the time to find the quotes.

Hello all,

New poster and long time lurker. I was wondering as to the nature of this thread in relation to the release of the actual GOTM limited editions and such. I was under the impression this was close to completion, does this mean if he is taking suggestions still on art for GOTM the book is no where close to completion?

I've already posted my ideas on your site Pat, great news!

Mine were as follows:

1. Siege at Pale (already in the works I know but still :p)

2. A scene with Shadowthrone and QB having their "discussion" :(

3. The Fete.

4. Rake versus the Hounds.

5. Paran within Dragnipur. A must IMO.

6. The Eleint versus Raest.

I think only those that actually purchased the novels should have a say, but that's only me:) Anyways nothing I really want to see from Gardens I suppose I'll be happy with just about anything. Memories of Ice, now that is a novel I have a kagillion scenes for

edit:

Although I would like to see Paran kneeling over Lorn's body. Or Paran and Tavore at the family estate...hmm

There is no possible way that would be enforced. Silly idea.

As to my ideas;

The mouse quarter burning.

One of Tool and Lorn viewing the merging of the mages bellurdan, Nightchill and Tattersail in the distance.

Rake flying down from up high to take on the Demon Lord

Quick and Kalam on the Rooftops with Tiste Andii descending in the sky

Raest out in the Gadrobi Hills taking on the Eleint

And the battle at Pale, which is already being worked on.

This is exciting. Apt's choices pretty much cover what i would want to see. Except i would replace the hairlock/tattersail/bb meeting scene with raests battle with sillandra (sp? the red dragon), where his own power flowing out from him is literally tearing his arms apart.

Young Paran on the roof of Mock's Hold, looking up at WJ and Fid as they look over the burning Mouse quarter, maybe with Lassen walking out the doorway on to the roof.

wow, very hard question, especially since I'm torn between moments I like, and moments that would look great as art. Besides what's been mentioned, some scenes that popped up in my head are...

-pretty much anything in Dragnipur (Paran with the hounds and Oponn probably)
-Paran killed in the alley with Apsalar standing over him, Cot/ST in the bg (am I remembering that scene right?)
-some sort of assassination battle, there are several good ones, so I feel like at least one should be in there :(
-Rake vs Demon (with Crokus there)
-Dragons vs Raest (perhaps with Crone around)
-Kruppe's dream, the scene where Tattersail is reborn

I suppose I could go on forever, but there's not much point since I think the best scenes have probably already been mentioned.

Well, what I'd like to see illustration-wise is different from favorite scenes, but illustrations I'd like to see include

-the confrontation between Hairlock, Tool, and Toc the Younger (I don't recall if there were more)

-The scene where Fiddler is playing one of his card games with the Bridgeburners (I think it's where Paran first walks in)

-Assassins on roof tops

-Young Crokus looking in windows

-Kruppe walking along the street (and steeling food)

-and the usual calls for Hounds of the Shadow and Rake
