I've seen it mentioned but I must have missed it. I've done one reread for everything but RG, so its definitely possible that the evidence was staring me in the face and I ignored it.

I know the Jaghut dead realm thingy (dead realm thingy is a technical term) was quoted as being a layer under hoods realm, and the king of Omtose Phellack was sitting on the throne there. Is this the section I should reread which talks about Hood being Jaghut or am I completely off?

If someone could point me in the right direction I'd appreciate it.

If I'm incoherent its because I have a headcold and so my short term memory is less than that of a goldfish...what was I saying again?

There is a lot of circumstantial evidence supporting this theory. So much that I consider it proven.

A summary of some of that evidence can be found here.

In brief:

- Raest knew Hood from his life before the tomb.
- Gethol, once Herald of Death and a Jaghut, made a speech upon his dismissal in MoI that suggested he resembled Hood
- In RG Ghost Hedge sees a dead Jaghut sitting on a throne in the realm of death.
- Hood is tall compared to humans, as noted when he personally collected the soul of Brukhalian. This is a Jaghut trait.
- In the Hold system still in force on Lether, "Death" sits on the Throne of Ice. That Hold is strongly identified with the Jaghut.
- Hood is described in RG as very tall and with green skin. Jaghut traits.
- The T'lan Imass do not get along with Hood. This is consistent with their denial of death, but also with Hood being a Jaghut, their racial enemy, and perhaps even the most powerful Jaghut remaining.

No doubt there are more hints. I think the above should convince anyone.

Also, Hood has balls, as testified by Silchas Ruin. :(

How does "hoary" mean "icy"?

None of the dictionaries I've consulted agree...

What strikes me most is that Hood, as it seems, held the position of Ice Throne prior to his hopping onto the throne of death, i.e. making him the former ruler of the Hold of Ice.

Something isn't making sense to me. In order for "Death" to rule the Hold of Ice, wouldn't Hood have to be Lord of Death and ruler of the Hold of Ice at the same time? I mean, assuming it's Hood who was sitting on the Ice Throne at the time, why would he be associated with death if he wasn't the Lord of Death? Mere coincidence?

Also, I just found this quote at wikipedia...

Quote

The god of Death, Hood, was once a Jaghut (King of the Ice Hold) before ascending to rule the Realm of Death

Is this accurate?

We sail in and out of Time, then back again. There is only one ship, the captain says. All the ships we hail between the galaxies or suns are this ship.

I think ice sort of replaced death in Lether. I think that's why he was associated with the aspect of death.

It works because her reading doesn't say "Death rules the Hold of Ice". It says "Death sits on the Throne of Ice". And since we are assuming that that is Hood's body that Hedge sees, it works.
So, you're the historian who survived the Chain of Dogs.
Actually, I didn't.

It seems you stand alone.
It was ever thus.

Ah, that makes sense.

Still... doesn't that (technically) make him a dead god? Provided that ruling the Holds requires ascension...

I think he just left his corporeal flesh. That's more evidence that Hood is a Jaghut, because we see in GotM that Raest is able to project his soul/essence/power out of his body and into any nearby mage and take their body. Raest did it to Mammot, and it is apparently a Jaghut ability.

So Raest did actually believe in his own soul? Curious...
