I actually know the exact point at which I 'lost' it. Any person who spends as much time on these forums as Wert obviously has, should have a certain degree of respect for the writer of the series, yet he describes Erikson as borderline. Its all a red haze after that.

So what you're saying is that if someone thinks Erikson is merely very good, rather than one of the best writers of all time, they shouldn't post here?

At least we're all cheery.

As for the actual topic, I would list all the usual suspects. Martin, Eriskon, etc. Though I didn't much care for Bakker's stuff or Abercrombie's.

Bastards!

I liked Lynch's first book. The second one was rather 'meh."

It's probably heresy for a Malazan mod to admit it but I slightly prefer Martin's work over SE's

Have you finished RG? If so, that's not a patch on Jenny's heresy...

That's an interesting point. Erikson would be about five or six on my rankings of favourite authors and I'm on forums for the ones above him and a couple of places below. I guess this is unusual for most people?

That reminds me, Brood, I've got a stack of your books here. What did you want me to do with them? :o

For most people, Erikson is like Marmite I think, so you are fairly unusual like that;)

I'll think about it... hopefully i'll be nearby at some point.

Hey Brood! How was work? BTW Batman was good, and the joker brilliant, I won't include spoilers. Shall we call it quits until I say something that 'fires your ire'? Damnit, that almost rhymed. :p

Wow this thread went off topic. LOL. Anyway, I enjoyed Abercrombie. Nothing mindblowing, and I was a little disappointed by the end of the third book. But I dont feel like I wasted my life reading it. Dont see myself reading it again though.

Scott Lynch and Brandon Sanderson show a lot of promise in my mind. I enjoyed Elantris and the first two gentlemen bastards books, although the second should have had more cons and less pirates.

I thought Rothfuss was decent. The way he tells you before hand what the entire story is going to be about was kindof offputting, but an interesting read none the less.

Started Bakker, haven't gotten that far yet. It's a little confusing, but I'm starting to figure out what's going on and I like it.

Why all the pratchett hate? Mind you, I dont read him as fantasy, but rather as humour... And the fact that there are a million pratchett books in second hand stores works for me :p Speaking of which - I saw the rat king and the first new sun (Wolfe) in a second hand store for pretty cheap. Haven't read any of their stuff and the reviews seem pretty mixed. So any advice with regard to those two?

hmm
for "Epic, spanning worlds/continents-type story"
SE/ICE
Nick Perumov (still to read the first book of his new cycle, but Ring of Darkness + Hjorward + Chronicles of the Rift were superb.)
GRRM
Bakker

for Urban fantasy
jim Butcher
Sergei Lukyanenko (not just the "Watch", but the new Duology as well)

for generally entertaining, but less content-heavy fantasy
GG Kay--Fionavar + Sarantine Mosaic were genius, other works not bad.
Keyes--"kingdoms of Thorn and bone" was a good series, even if "The Born Queen" seemed rushed. the Composer's storyline was one of the most original things I've ever read in a fantasy book.
Andzej Sapkowski--I've enjoyed the Witcher stories, though STILL haven't had the time to read the actual series :p

now, that being said, there's lots of things that are supposedly good that I haven't read yet (Have Abercombie sitting on the shelf, with no time to read it, same with Meiville. I've real Lynch's first and liked it, but hadn't read RSUS, so reserving judgement)
