Thought I'd let everyone know (if you at all care) that Christopher Paolini's third and final episode of the Inheritance Trilogy will be called Return of the Je... er... I mean... "Brisingr".

It shows up now on bn.com and amazon.com.

I have a very bad opinion of Eragon/ Eldest as being horribly cliched, and totally derivative (Dragonriders of Pern + Star Wars in dollops + LOTResque races).

That said, I am sort of perversely curious to see if Paolini pulls off a readable conclusion. I read the first two at the library, so will read the third the same way...

How about you guys? Any raves/ rants this announcement triggers?

I saw the Eragon movie...wasn't impressed.

That's as far as my knowledge on the subject extends.

Haha. Well, I'll read the third one because I have to admit I am interested to see what happens. Though I really agree that his story almost but not quite parallels star wars. Add a little lord of the rings and poof! Eragon is born. But you got give him some props, he started to write the first one when he was like thirteen years old.

Oh and that was incredibly horribly horrible.
they changed so much it is frightening. I hope whoever made that movie never again make a movie from a book.

Don't judge the book by movie, but don't expect the book to be super awesome either...

I'll read Brsinger because I've read the first two and I'm curious how it will turn out and it probably be as easy to read as the first 2. Unfortunately the enjoyment I will derive from the third book will likely be on par with the other two, that is to say very little, I honestly had more fun painting the fence round the garden.
I'll give him credit, Eragon he wrote a lot of when he was 13, but it wasn't a good enough story to be made into a film. Amazingly the film was a step DOWN, considerably, without a doubt the worst fantasy film I've ever seen, and it definately ranks in my worst movies I've ever rented out table very highly.

fair enough paolini he wrote eragon at like 14 or something but after that his books should have progressed A LOT! because we all know they are not good at all, i will buy the third one and probably the fourth one just to see how it ends but as people have allready said i will most likely NOT enjoy them alot.

btw its not a trilogy, its 4 books now cos he couldnt fit it all into the last book, its called the inheritance cycle now

Apt, I have seen D&D, Eragon is worse because its even worse than the book which I though very poor.
I rented D&D thinking it would be cringeworthy but couldn't help myself :D
ETA - I like Jeremy Irons but he has been in some turkeys in his day.

I'd actually forgotten about the movie when I made the OP...

GOOD GOD, IT WAS BAD! The production values were so obviously cheap - everything from the armor to the make-up to the photography reminded me of a home video featuring neighbours dressed up for halloween.

And yeah... Jeremy Irons does tend to get into the worst fantasy tales.

Any idea if they are making Eldest into a movie? Hope not!

@Koryk - aww... so he's now incorporating elements from RJ/ GRRM too? :D

I read the first one a few years back, and enjoyed it a bit. But a few years later when the sequel was released I had become alot better read and couldn't even make it half way through the novel. I'll pass.

Where's this 'he was thirteen when he wrote it' coming from? The claim is he was fifteen, but that's when he started it, he was eighteen by the time it was published by mummy and daddy.
I have no interest in it at all. He's a no-talent.
I can't carry it for you, but I can carry you.

I managed to finish the first book, and have no interest in reading the others. I'm not very good at spotting things ripped off other authors, but I saw a lot in this book. Besides, Eragon whines too much.

It is what it is, a fantasy story for younger readers. In that, it succeeds in being entertaining for kids between probably 12-16 or so......

I can't hate on the kid for making millions off a generic idea, but as far as any kind of contribution to the literary world or fantasy genre....no....

It's stewed turd.

I've read the first 2 and will grab the third when it comes out. I find them to be a fun "lite" read when I just don't want to think real hard, lol. The same reason I have my Eddings books still and reread them every couple of years.

I do agree that the story is very predictable and was told much better in probably hundreds of other books, but sometimes I like to turn my brain off and just enjoy reading.

As for the movie, one of the 3 worst movies I have ever seen. Would have left the theater when the dragon flew through the cloud and suddenly turned big, but my two brothers didn't want to leave. If I would have brought a book I would have went and sat in the car. Horrible horrible movie.

I can't believe Irons was in that...it was bad.

It will be interesting to see if the kid ever writes more fantasy...and if it will be more mature.
